Hate Forest/Against All Odds/Osmose Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Hate  Forest  returns  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Against  All  Odds"  which  will  be  released  on  April  25th  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  deep  growling  style  while  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  all  of  the   musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  most  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  very  fast  and  primitive  direction.  All  of  the  songs  also  avoid  the  use  of  any  solos  or  leads  along  with  certain  sections  of  the  album  also  adding  in  a  few  seconds  of  mid  tempo  sections  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Hate  Forest  goes  for  a  very  fast  and  raw  style  of  pagan  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Mythology,  Mysticism,  Nature  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hate  Forest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Werewolves"  "Mariupol"  and  "Courage".  8  out  of  10.

Hate Forest/Innermost/Osmose Productions/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Hate  Forest  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Innermost"  which  was  released  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  epic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  deep  growling  style.

  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  A  couple of  the  songs  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  and  throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  hate  Forest  remains  true  to  the  raw  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Mythology,  Mysticism,  Nature,  Nietzscheism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  ano5ther  great  sounding  recording  from  hate  Forest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  solo  project,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Those  Whoe  Howl  Inside  the  Snowstorm"  and  "Solitude  In  Starry  December".  8  out  of  10.

Hate Forest/Hour Of The Centaur/Osmose Productions/2020 CD Review

 

  Hate  Forest  are  a  solo  project  from  Ukraine  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  raw  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Hour  Of  The  Centaur"  which  will be  released  on  December  25th  by  Osmose  Productions.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw feeling. Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  a  growling  style  which  also  adds  elements  of  death  metal  onto  the  recording.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's and  early  2000's  style  as  well  as  sounding  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  the  riffing  also  having  its  repetitive  moments  which  also  gives  the  recording  a  more  primitive  atmosphere  and  all  of  the  music  also sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  hate  Forest  remains  true  to  the  raw  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  Mythology,  Nietzscheism,  Patriotism,  Nature  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hate  Forest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Those  Who  Worship  The  Sun  Bring  The  Night"  and  "Shadowed  By  A  Veil  of  Scythian  Arrows".8 out  of  10.

Hate Forest/Battlefields/Supernal Music/2003 CD Review

  Hate Forest where a band from Ukraine that played a form of ns pagan/black metal with death metal style vocals and this is a review of their 2003 album "Battlefields" which was released by Supernal Music.

Drums are mostly slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats, while the keyboards sound very atmospheric and pagan sounding, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars are mostly slow, mid paced to fast pagan/black metal riffing that also has a death metal influence to it, and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams, pagan chants and deep growls with some occasional female clean singing vocals that call up the pagan gods, while the lyrics are written in a mixture Ukrainian and English cover Slavic Paganism, Mythology, Nietzsche-ism, Nature, and Darkness, as for the production it is very dark, raw and primitive sounding.

In my opinion this was a great album from Hate Forest and while it may not be as fast or as brutal as their earlier releases, i still think this was a great album and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "With Fire And Iron" "Our Fading Horizons" and "Glare Over Slavonic Lands". RECOMMENDED BUY.
