Dusk Cult/Foilklore Discipline/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Australia's  Dusk  Cult  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Folklore  Disciple"  which  will  be  released  in  August.

  Fire  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  eta  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  the  songs  also  add  in a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  along  with  a  couple  of   songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars,  clear  singing  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  one  track  also  being  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  folklore  and  historical  aspects  of  the  dusk  cult  mythos.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  Cult  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Canopy  Of  Mercury  Light"  "The  Woodsman  Of  Bavaria"  and  "Enduring  Purpose".  8  out  of  10.

Dusk Cult/Night Sky Revelations/2023 Full length Review

 

  Dusk  Cult  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recordign  plays  a  very  melodic  and old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Night  Sky  Revelations"  which  will b e  released  in  July.

  Thunder  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals   are mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  growls  are  also  used  at  times  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  old  school  touches.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Keyboards  can  also be  heard  on  a  few  songs  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  as  well  as  the  heavier  riffing  also  bringing  in  a  lot  of  melody,  clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  a  couple  of  tracks  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end.

  On  this  recording  Dusk  Cult  remain  true  to  the  melodic  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Folklore,  Cultism  and  The  Night  Sky.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dusk  Cult  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Cloud  Worship"  "Ascent  Of  Mars"  and  "Fires  In  The  Gloom".  8  out  of  10.

Dusk Cult/Embrace The Lunar Age/2021 CD Review

 

  Dusk  Cult  are  a  duo  from  Australia  that  plays  a  very  melodic  and  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  202  "Embrace  The  Lunar  Age".

  The  sounds  of  night  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  yet  melodic  musical  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  which  also  have  their  high  pitched  moments  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  influences  but  keeps  it  modern  at  the  same  time.  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with t he  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  acoustic  guitars  also  making  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  songs as  well  as  one  of  the  songs  also  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  album,  growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  one  is  also  an  acoustic  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Moon  Worship,  Folklore,  Cultism  and  The  Night  Sky.   

  In  my  opinion  Dusk  Cult  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Luminosity  Ritual"  "Night  March"  and  "Eventide  Persuasion".  8  out  of  10.
