Aeternus/...And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth/Witching Hour Productions/2020 Album Re-Issue Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Norway''s  Aeternus  which  continues  their  dark  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  2013  and  called  ...And  The  Seventh  His  Soul  Detesteth"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  June  of  2020 by  Witching  Hour  Productions.

  Dark  beats  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Grim  black  emtal  style  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also showing  an  influence  of  groove  metal  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  introducing  acoustic  and  Spanish  guitars  onto  the  album,  one  of  the  later  songs  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  anti  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Aeternus  which  shows  some  improvements  from  the  previous  re-issue  that  was  reviewed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "There  Will  Be  None"  "Ruin  And  Resurrect"  "Saligia"  and  "The  Spirit  Of  Illumination".  8  out  of  10.

Aeternus/HeXaeon/Witching Hour Productions/2020 Album Re-Issue Review

  Aeternus  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  around  since  1993 and  plays  a  dark  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2006  album  "HeXaeon"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  June  on  vinyl  by  Witching  Hour  Productions.

  A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  melodic  direction  which  also  uses a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  black  metal  elements  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  At  times  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly,  Some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  a  touch  of  groove  metal  which  was  never  utilized  on  their  older  material  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  album.

  When    screams  and  grim  spoken  word  parts are  utilized  they  also  the  songs  more  of  a  blackened  edge  when  they  are  utilized.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  doom  metal  elements  being  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  anti  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  decent  sounding  recording  from  Aeternus  and  while  I  preferred  their  earlier  material  which  was  more  creative  and  innovative  as  well  as  being  different  from  what  was  going  on  in  Norway at  the  time  but  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Darkest  Of  Minds"  "In  The  3rd  Dwells  Oblivion" "Ageless  Void"  and  "What  I  Crave".  7/5  out  of  10.

Aeternus/Ascension Of Terror/Hammerheart Records/2001 CD Review

Aeternus are a band from Norway that started out as a more pagan orientated black/dark metal band but evolved more into a black/death metal band with this release and this is a review of their 2001 album "Ascension Of Terror" which was released by Hammerheart Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone which is mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffing that combines influences from black, dark, doom and death metal to create a sound of their own with some melodies being thrown in at times, while the lead guitars are very dark and melodic guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they bring a very dark and medieval pagan feel to the music.

Vocals are all deep blackened death metal growls with some occasional high pitched screams, while the lyrics cover darkness, hatred and mythology, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it.

In my opinion this was a great album from Aeternus which showed them expanding on their blackened death metal sound and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Possessed By The Serpent Vengeance" "The Essence Of The Elder" "Denial Of Salvation" and "The Liar Of Anubus". RECOMMENDED BUY
