Har/Cursed Creation/Dark Descent Records/2024 Full Length Review

Israel/Germany's  Har  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  evil  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Cursed  Creation"  which  will  be  released  on  August  23rd  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

Distorted  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  faster  riffing  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a r aw  feeling.  The  album  also  has  its  dissonant  moments  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  both  modern  and  old  school  elements,  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental  and  all  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  heavier  direction.

On  this  recording  Har  goes  for  a  very  modern  and  chaotic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Evil  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Har  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Invoking  Evil  Spirit"  "Poisonous  Entity"  and "Metaphysical  Stench".  8  out  of  10.

Har/Anti-Shechinah/2019 Demo Review

Israel's  Har  have  returned  with  a  new recording  which  continues  their  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  ep "Anti-Shechinah".

A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  the  vocals  bringing  in  a  good  amount  of  high  pitched  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in a  very  dark  and  chaotic  style  while  the  riffing  also  adds  in  elements  of  death  metal  as  well  as  some  blast  beats  being  used  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

A  great  amount  of  war  metal  influences  can  also  be  heard  along  with  some  bestial  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  at  times  as  well  as  keeping  a  modern  atmosphere,  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  hear d in  some  of the  riffing.

On  this  recording  Har  remains  true  to t he  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw while  the  lyrics  cover  the  reverse  side  of  the   Qabalah,  Necromancy,  Darkness  and  Black  Magick  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Har  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  war,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out t his  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Bor".  8  out  of  10.

Har/Visitation/Blood Harvest/2018 EP Review

Har  are  a  band  from  Israel  that  has  been  featured  before  in this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  ep  "Visitation" which  will be  released in March  by  Blood  Harvest.

Middle  eastern  style  folk  instruments  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  ritualistic  elements  before  adding  in  some  dark  and  heavy   riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  after  awhile  black  metal  screams  and  bestial  growls  start  to  make  their  presence  known.

Most  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  some  elements  of  war  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of t he  songs  bringing  in  elements  of  doom/death  metal.

Har  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  bestial  black/death  and  war  metal  style  of  their  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover epic  tales  of  black  magick,  necromancy  and  darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Har  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  bestial  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Conjure  The  Black  Flame".  8  out  of  10.

Har Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band

Har is a five piece band from Tel Aviv, Israhell. It started back a couple of years ago as a three piece with the intention of playing raw Black Metal written intuitively and live as opposed to a more calculated approach to writing. Yet as time went on it sort of grew on us and all sort of influences and approaches are creeping in to the process. So the next pieces will have their own twist.

2.A year ago you had released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

It’s exactly as been said in the previous answer, raw and live black metal, straightforward, no build-ups and smartass bullshit to mitigate the attack. Yet there is a constant dimension of occultism to it that rule over the whole thing and set the mood. A dimension that grows larger as we work on new material.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

It draws from various sceneries that all go back to the same theme of a desire to become one with void and purification from human reality through trance fueled rituals and sacrifice.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Har'?

HAR means “mountain” in Hebrew, our mother language, which has all sorts of transcendental, mystical and ritual connotations in almost every culture. In itself a mountain’s sublime object: too big to grasp it visually in one shot, distanced and close to the sky. It’s the locus of demonic and spiritual rituals of sacrifice, whether in the Old Testament or in the ancient Mayan culture and it’s also the site for pilgrimage, so it is strongly linked to a desire for a higher state of being.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We hadn’t had more than few so far and it feels like every show is better. The best for us performance and mood wise is probably one we played in a tiny basement with crappy sound and no airco in Jerusalem in the middle of a strictly orthodox Jews neighborhood. The best way to describe our shows at the moment is probably as no bullshit plug and play that turns into an acoustic trancy ritual.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

There are some shows coming up in Israel and we do plan on touring Europe sometime in 2016. We’ll update as soon as we have something concrete.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

There’s a planned release on vinyl and cassette pretty soon if all goes by the plan, but we are still open to offers.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

There’s some good feedback coming from all over the place, be it from people involved in the music or just metal fans, which is great and we hope to get more exposure toward the release.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?

There are three bands that are played by HAR members, Mortus Umbra, SheenDaled and Kessef. You can check them on Facebook and Bandcamp.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Right now we aim more towards another E.P to be recorded in the coming months. It has been a long time since writing the first one and the next one will be the product of re-alignment of our ideas and moods.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are five individuals so it is quite diverse but it also overlaps. There’s a lot of old school Darkthrone to Tangorodim, Hellhammer and also Von, abigor all the way to bands like Bestial Warlust. Virus and ved buens ende been played quite a lot but also bands like Negative Plane, Vomitor, Portal. Lots of stuff also non metal

12.How would you describe your views on Occultism?

A gateway out of an over rational, secular, skeptic and complex ridden Pathetic existence.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Har/Baal Ha'ov/2014 EP Review

Har  are  a  band  from  Israel  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review of  their  self  released  2014  ep  "Baal  Ha'ov".

Drone  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  for  a  very  fast  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grim  vocals  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  band  also  brings  in  elements  of  brutal  death  metal  into  their  musical  style.

High  pitched  screams  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs and  while  the  sound  is  very  modern  you  can  hear  a  lot  of  90's  black  and  death  metal  influences  in  the  songs  and  the  riffs  also bring  in  melodies  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  demonic  chanting  and  melodic guitar  leads.

Har  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  raw  and  traditional  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  elements  of  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of their  own,  the  production  has  a  very  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  horror  and  occult  themes.

In  my  opinion  Har  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Forgotten  Mother"  and  "Necromancer".  8  out  of  10.
