Nekrasov/The Mirror Void/Prosthetic Records/2017 CD Review

Australia's  Nekrasov  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  with  the  music  being  a  mixture  of  atmospheric  black  metal  and  power  electronics  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "The  Mirror  Void  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Prosthetic  Records.

Distorted  power  electronics  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  when  they  are  utilized  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  are  added  onto  the  recording.

When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  atmospheric  synths  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  some  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  the  music  also  mixes  harsh  noise  with  black  metal  at  times  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  there  is  also  some  instruments  that  are  done  in  more  of  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  style,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

On  this  recording  Nekrasov  focuses  more  on  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  power  electronics  on  this  recording  to  create  something  different  from  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  negative  themes  with  a  touch  of  Lovecraftian  vault.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nekrasov  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  and  power  electronics,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Whatever  Pleases  You,  Keeps  You  Back  "The  Ignorance  Of  the  5  Elements"  and  "Boils  And  Fevers  Clear  The  Body  Of  Impurities".  8  out  of  10.

Nekrasov/Negative Temple/2016 Full Length Review

Nekrasov  are  a  solo  project  from  Australia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  ambient  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2016  album  "Negative  Temple".

Ambient  soundscapes  and  evil  synths  start  off  the  album  giving  the  music  an  experimental  and  avant  garde  feeling  along  with  some  harsh  noise  elements  a  few  seconds  later  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  the  recording  at  times  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long and  epic  in  length.

When  the  music  it  speeds  up  and  goes  fro  a  very  raw  style  of  black  metal  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  harsh  yet  high  pitched  screams  and  there  is  also  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  melodies  at  times  and  some  of  the  songs  also  mix  harsh  noise  with  the  heavier  guitars  and  drums  and  one  tracks  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  yet  ritualistic  chanting  and  the  album  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  experimental  and  metal  tracks.

Nekrasov  creates  an  album  that  has  its  very  raw,  harsh  and  atmospheric  black metal  moments  with  a  few  songs  being  very  true  to t he  genre  while  other  songs  see  the  music  bring  more  in  the  experimental,  ambient  and  harsh  noise  direction  while  he  does  mix  his  2  different  styles  at  times  to create  a  very  original  yet  also  dark  and  underground  sound, the  productions  sounds  very  dark  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive,  philosophical  and  shamanistic  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album from  Nekrasov  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  mixed  with  dark  ambient,  harsh  noise  and  experimental  music,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Seeing  Of  the  Mountain  Covered  In  Spirits"  and  "Clarity  And  Nonvision".  8  out  of  10.

Nekrasov/Perishable Things/2010 EP Review

Nekrasov are a 1 man band from Australia that plays a very raw and primitive form of atmospheric black metal mixed with dark ambient and this is a review of their self released 2010 ep "Perishable Things".

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that following the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths they are only used for a few seconds and they bring a dark ambient feeling to the music, in addition there are alot of harsh noise effects being utilized on the last song.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very heavy, brutal, raw and primitive sounding with some atmospheric riffing that brings an ambient feeling to the music as well as some harsh noise guitar distortion and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover dark and hateful themes, as for the production it has a very heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Nekrasov are a very great sounding raw and primitive atmospheric ambient/black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "C.Z.V.M" and "Womb". RECOMMENDED BUY.
