Sarke/Endo Feight/Soulseller Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Norway's  Sarke  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  old  school  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Endo  Feight"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Soulseller  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths.  Vocals  bring  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  Elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  modern  and  old  school  touches  along  with  a  couple  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.

  When  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  are  also  utilized  along  with  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  influences  of  doom  metal,  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sarke  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black,  doom  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Death  Construction"  "Old  Town  Sinner"  and  :"Macabre  Embrace".  8  out  of  10.

Sarke/Allsighr/Soulseller Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Norway's  Sarke  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  old  school  style  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  thrash,  speed,  doom  metal  and  70's  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Allsighr"  which  will b e  released  in  November  by  Soulseller  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  direction.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  are  also  added  into  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  albums  while  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  influences  of  thrash  and  speed  emtal.

  Touches  of  70's  rock  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  psychedelic  moments  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sarke  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  thrash,  speed,  doom  metal  and  70's  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bleak  Reflections"  "Beheading  Of  The  Circus  Director"  "Glacial  Casket"  and  "Imprisoned".  8  out  of  10.

Sarke/Gastwerso/Indie Recordings/2019 CD Review

  Norway's  Sarke  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  icy  and  haunting  style  of  black  metal  while  also  adding  in  some  thrash  and  atmospheric  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Gastwerso"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Indie  Recordings.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  thrash  influences  can  be  heard  along  with  the  vocals  bringing  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  and  synths  are  also  utilized  at  times.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  music  also  adds  in  second  wave  and  modern  black  metal  elements   while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  couple  of  tracks  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  and  acoustic  guitars  into  the  music  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  on  a  few  songs.  The  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  Celtic  Frost  influence  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  psychedelic  and  black'n'roll  touches  can  be  heard,  slide  guitars  are  also  added  onto  the  closing  track  wh is  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  evil,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Sarke  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Echoes  From  The  Ancient  Crucifix"  "Ties  Of  Blood"  and  "Cribs  Hand".  8  out  of  10.

Sarke/Viige Urh/Indie Recordings/2017 CD Review

  Sarke  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Viige  Urh"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Indie  Recordings.

  A  very  heavy  punk  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  angry  vocals  that  gives  the  music  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  vibe  while  the  music  is  more  rooted  in  the  early  90's  Norwegian  second  wave  style  as  well  as  adding  synths  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  more  of  an  old  school  metal/punk  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard,  a  couple  of  tracks  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  psychedelic  elements  and  female  vocals and  all  of the  music  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.

  Sarke  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  that  was  established  on  their  previous  release,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Norwegian  and  English  and  cover  evil,  darkness,  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Sarke  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  thrash  influenced  Norwegian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dagger  Entombed"  "Jutul"  and  "Evolution  And  Fate".  8  out  of  10.

Sarke/Bogefod/Indie Recordings/2016 CD Review

  Sarke  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  along  with  some  elements  of  punk,  doom,  atmospheric  and  technical  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Bogefod"  which  will  be  rleeased  in  February  by  Indie  Recordings.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  Norwegian  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  and  grim  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  elements  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  music  has  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  the  music  speeds  up.

  Blast  beats  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  slower  riffs  in  the  tracks  bring  in  a  very  heavy  doom  metal  influence  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.

   As  the  album  progresses  classical  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  music  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounds  and  synths  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  touch  of  first  wave  black  metal,  while  later  tracks  add  in  a  touch  of  punk  and  some  of  the  riff  also  start  getting  more  technical  while  a  different  song  also  brings  in  operatic  female  vocals.

  Sarke  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  traditional  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  thrash  and  doom  metal  along  with  some  technical  riffing  to  update  the  genre  for  modern  days,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  based  on  Norse  classic  "Eyrbyggia  Saga".

  In  my  opinion  Sarke  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  raw  Norwegian  black  metal,  doom  and  thrash  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blood  Of  Men"  "The  Wicked's  Transient  Sleep"  "Dawning" and  "Sunken".  8  out  of  10.
