AntroNero Interview

AntroNero were born in the summer of 2015, from the minds of Massimiliano Aragona and Francesco Liberti, both former members of Animvs Infirmvs. Starting from the latter’s Black Metal origins, they decide to work together once again after years of separation, while remaining for various issues an under study project. And because of that, it’s only in the spring of 2017 that their namesake first EP comes out, with four original tracks and also a tribute song to Animvs Infirmvs themselves. The EP proposes a Black Metal tainted by various personal influence. Right after, although with some difficulties, the two of them start working on what will be their first LP. While they waited, they release the singles “Ego” and “Aldilà Dei Remoti Confini” (which anticipate a separation from the EP) and a cover of “La ballata degli impiccati”, a tribute to the genovese singer-songwriter Fabrizio De André. In the spring of 2019 the long-awaited LP “Bagliori nel buio” finally comes out. Twelve unreleased tracks, in which they unleashed all of their stylistic influence, making it, in fact, a hard-to-define album.
On october 31st of the same year they published a new tribute, this time to Nerorgasmo

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
AntroNero is the result of two conflicting yet complementary minds
On the one hand the will to draw inspiration from classical metal archetypes, on the other the need to seek our own distinctive mark, calling upon each other’s musical influences
Based on that, we find in our Italian mother tongue the means to give the highest expression to our characters, identities, not to mention our styles

2.So far you have released one ep and one full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?
  The EP stemmed from the decision to take the studio project path, in contrast with the previous intents to form a band
The LP further stressed such concept by bringing about the features, ideas and criteria that were only suggested in the EP

3.The band formed out of the ashes of 'Animvs  Informvs', what was the cause of breaking up that band to form a new one?
3animvs infirmvs introduced us in the world of black metal several were the circumstances, ideas, and  issues which led us to the breaking point it tore us apart in the same way it  brought us together
but chance has made us meet again several years later so we decided to create a new project, although remaining attached to what has been the adolescent chapter of our mutual connection

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
4The project deals with different topics, among which : introspection, stance-taking, existential discomfort, melancholy, misanthropy , fear, disorientation, alienation, and so forth

5.I know that the bands name means 'black cave/hole' in Italian, how does that name fit in with the musical style that you play?
 Among the many, this one seemed to us the most appropriate

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

It perfectly coincides with the lyrics of the track “ Bagliori Nel Buio”

7.Currently there are only 2 members in te band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?
 Despite the struggle to find new members, we do not exclude the possibility to become a fully-fledged band


8.So far you have worked with 'L.F Records' and 'Vacula Productions' on getting your material released, do you feel both of these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?
LF records started just for fun, in fact either the EP and the LP were recorded at Francesco Liberti’s house

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Despite soft, our approach with the public has been after all positive

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Currently Francesco Is committed only to AntroNero
With regards to Massimilano, he is engaged in a one man band project called Aramas, which means Aragona Massimiliano and refers back to the concepts emphasized  by AntroNero

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Actually we don’t know, but as long as the circumstances will allow us to do so, we’re going to try to express through the music what we are

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
The multiple musical influences which allow us to vary every track, although sticking to our distinctive mark, are due to the fact that we don’t draw on any precise genre or band
As one may notice when listening to the album, our style ranges from the Black Metal motif, to the more melodic Heavy Metal, and from the darkest and sinister riff to the glowing, melodic sounds

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
we will continue to work in the shade

AntroNero/Bagliori Nel Buio/Vacula Productions/2019 CD Review

  AntroNero  are  a  duo  from  Italy  that  plays  a  traditional   form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of their  2019  album  "Bagliori  Nel  Buio"  which  was  released  by  Vacula  Productions.

  A  very  dark  sounding  interlude  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  small  amount  of  operatic  female  vocals  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well as  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  ritualistic  soundscapes.

  The  music  also adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  but  also  keeps  it  very  modern  at  the  same  time.  Back  up  shouts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  riffs  also  start  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  you  can  hear  a  small  amount  of  thrash  elements  in  the  riffing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  darkness,  destruction  and  evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  AntoNero  are  a  very  great  sounding  traditional  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ego"  "Abominio"  "Istruzione  della  Distruzione"  and  "L'ultima  Battaglia".  8  out  of  10.
