Drowning In Sorrow Interview

  •
  • 1.For those that have never heard of you before can you tell us a little bit about the band?
    1. My objective is ''unleash'' all my feelings through the lyrics, the Drowning in Sorrow is my ''box of thoughts'', where I save all my thoughts about society, existence and humanity. I don't care about divulgation, I don't care if I'll have 10 or 1000 listeners, this isn't my focus, my focus is to sing what I think. I don't care about critics, I do it for me, not for you. Drowning in Sorrow is my mind.
2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the demo?
    2. Good question. This demo is just a ''test''. You can see, this isn't nothing ''very good'', we can make better. I think that is a good step for we that are beginners at musical world, although don't be a excellent job. Our problem is the drum, we don't have a drummer, we have to program a drum, so, the drum is a bullshit. But for the next album, I already have a new drum program, better.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
    3. Lyrical themes: misanthropy, self-hatred/destruction, negativism, despair and suicide. I sing about this.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Drowning In Sorrow?
    4. This name I created at a time that I was VERY sad, because of some problems (which are still present today). I felt I was drowning in sorrow, literally.
5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you choose to remain a duo?
    5. Maybe. I wanna a drummer, but I don't know anyone that plays, so, I think it will not happen.
6.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
    6. I'm doing a deal with a small distro, ''Misanthropic Forest Distro''.
7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of depressive black metal?
    7. Positive, i think. For what I saw, the people liked it. For next album, we'll make a better job, so I think the results will be better too.
8.What is going on with the other musical project these days?
    8. Satanic Genocide is our Raw Black Metal project, but we decided to stop the project, because the guitars was getting very rotten because of the equipment of recording. We pretend to come back on future.
9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
    9. I pretend to make a primitive DSBM ever, I think the ''inovation'' isn't for DSBM. It have to be the same ever.
10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
    0. The only style that have influenced me is the DSBM. I listen to only Black Metal and subgenres, so it is the only thing that influence me. Some bands influenced me: Totalselfhatred, Abyssmal Sorrow, Inverna, I'm in a Coffin, Lifelover, Xasthur, Malvery, Depressive Years, Wintercult and some others, infinites projects, every day comes a new inspiration.
11.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
    11. I have the Satanism like a philosophy, i'm not follower of religions or deities. I have Satan like a symbol to be followed, something that represents me. He represents my freedom, my opposition against the Christianity, my sickness, my insanity, my I. He represents my hatred. I use Satan to get away from people of day-to-day.
12.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
    12. Historical revisionism, National Socialism, anti-Zionism... Only policy. And no, I'm not racist. 13.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
    13. No, that's all. Thank you for give me this opportunity to say about my project for the people.

Drowning In Sorrow/Guide Yourself To The Negativism Convulsion/2013 Demo Review

Drowning  In  Sorrow  are  a  band  from  Brazil t hat  plays  funeral/depressive  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  demo  "Guide  Yourself  To  The  Negativism  Convulsion".

"(Intro)Inside  Of  Darkness  And  Mind"  begins  the demo  with  dark  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  slow  drum  beats  and  a  minute  later  it  goes  into  a  more  rawer  direction a long  with  some  evil  high  pitched  screams  and  as  a  minute  goes  by  a  small  amount  of  clean  guitars  are  added  into  the  song.

"Liberating  Illusion"  opens  up  with  clean  guitars  and  a  minute  later  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs,  drums  and  high  pitched  grim  screams  kick  in  and  the  song  sticks  to  more  of  a  slow  or  mid  paced  black  metal  direction.

"A  Letter  From  Suicide"  starts up  with  some  slow  black/funeral  doom  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drums  along  with  some  deep  growls  a  few  seconds  later  that  evolve  into  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  a  couple  of  minutes  alter  it  goes  more  into  a  cleaner  direction  for  a  few  seconds  and  then  gets  heavy  again.

'Obsessive  Love"  kicks  in  with  soft  acoustic  guitar  playing  and  a  minute  later  heavy  and  dark  guitar  riffs  kick  in along  with  drums  and  black  metal  vocals  and  a  few minutes  later  another  riff  is  added  into  the  song  before  returning  to  a  cleaner  direction  for  a  couple of  seconds  and  then  getting heavy  again.

"Disorder"  hits  it  off  with  soft  acoustic  guitar  playing  and  a  minute  later  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  kick  in  along  with  drums  depressive  sounding  black  metal  screams  and s ticking  to  a  slower  direction  and  the  song  closes  with  clean  playing.

"Addictive  Pain"  makes  it  way  in  with  clean  guitar  along  with   rain  and  thunder  sounds  and  a  minute  later  drums  and  depressive  black  metal  vocals  kick  in  and  the  song  stays  in  the  same  direction  throughout  most  of  the  song.

"Drowning  In  Sorrow"  which  is  also  the  last  song  on  the  demo  begins  with  soft  and  clean  guitar  playing  and  a  minute  later  slow  depressive  black  metal  riffs,  drums  and  suicidal  screams  start  to  make  their  presence  known  in  the  song.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive  and  suicidal  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Drowning  In  Sorrow  are  a  very  great sounding  funeral/depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Letter  From  Suicide"  and  "Obsessive  Love".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
