Barbarian Swords/Fetid/Base Record Production/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Spain's  Barbarian  Swords  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Fetid"  which  will  be  released  on  April  26th  by  Base  Record  Production.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  All  of t he  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  while  clear  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  keyboards  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.

  On  this  recording  Barbarian  Swords  focuses  more  on  a  slower  and  atmospheric  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  nihilism  and  negativity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Barbarian  Swords  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Six  Feet  Of  Justice"  and  "Not  Even  light".  8  out  of  10.

Barbarian Swords/Anti-Dogma Megaforce/Eternal Juggernaut Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Spain's  Barbarian  Swords  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  203  album  "Anti-Dogma  Megaforce"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Eternal  Juggernaut  Records.

  A  very  harsh  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  chaotic,  dark  and  melodic  style  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal   screams.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  being  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal.  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  spoken  word  parts  and  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  closing  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.    

  On  this  recording  barbarian  Swords  brings  in  more  of  an  aggressive  style  of  black  metal  as  well  as  expanding  on  the  keyboards  and  keeping  some  of  the  sludge  and  doom  metal  elements  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nihilism  and  misanthropy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Barbarian  Swords  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  aggressive  black  metal  with  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Massive  Prehistoric  Killing  Machine"    "Immortal  Ritualistic Abomination"  "A  Mountain  Of  Corpses"  and  "A  Thousand  Impaled  Heads".  8 out  of  10.

Barbarian Swords/Crusaders Of The Apocalypse - The Return/Negra Nit/Negre plan Y/2022 Double Compilation Album Review

 

  Barbarian  Swords  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  sludge  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  double  compilation  album  "Crusaders  Of  The  Apocalypse  -  The  Return"  which  will  be  released  in  June  as  a  joint  effort  between  Negra  Nit  and  Negre  plan  Y.

  Nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  distorted  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  an  angry  shouting  style  at  times.

  Some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  along  with  some  first  wave  touches  also  being  utilized  in  certain  sections  of  the  compilation  as  well  as  some  of  the  reverb  sounds  also  showing  an  influence  of  noise,  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  instrumentals  and  one  song  also  introduces  growls  onto  the  recording.  Some  of  the  songs  are  also  recorded  live  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  fast  playing  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  hate,  nihilism,  misanthropy,  anti  religion  and  anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  barbarian  Swords  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Crusaders  Of  The  Apocalypse"  "Immortal  Victory"  "Hunting  Rats"  and  "Pentecostal  Black  Punishment".  8  out  of  10.

Barbarian Swords/Worms/Cimmerian Shade Recordings/2016 CD Review

  Barbarian  Swords  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black, doom  and  sludge  metal  with  some  elements  of  punk  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Worms"  which  will  be  released  on  November  11th  by  Cimmerian  Shade  Recordings.

  Movie  samples  start  off  the  album  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into a   very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  high  pitched  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  guitar  leads  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  are  very  heavily influenced  by  doom  and  sludge  metal  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melodies  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  harsh  noise  and  crust  punk  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  the  vocals  also  use  growls  in  some  of  the  songs.

  Barbarian  Swords  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  dark  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  sludge  and  doom  metal  along  with  some  elements  of  noise  and  crust  punk  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Anti  Religion,  Nihilism,  Misanthropic,  War  and  Porn  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Barbarian  Swords  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  sludge  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres, you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pure  Demology"  "Christian  Worms"  and  "Requiem".  8  out  of  10.
