Yagon Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the solo project since the recording and release of the new ep?

Answer – The new release is the song A Howl of Sorrow. It's from my new album released soon. Up till today I've completed 5 songs.

2.Recently you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Answer – The musical style is a combination of doom and black metal that created a sad and dark atmosphere.

3. A lot of your lyrics cover fantasy themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

Answer – The lyrics writer is very much connected to the world of fantasy. She and I are synchronized because sometimes the lyrics are written as a response to the song, and sometimes I write the song after reading the lyrics.

4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

Answer – The topics are sadness both in fantasy and in real life. The death of loved ones, the animal world, fantasy and horror.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

Answer – The goal of the artwork was to capture the main theme of the song – A Raven's Tale- and to give the audience an exact image that represents that theme.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself but have experience playing with musicians in a different band, do you prefer to work solo?

Answer – well, I have tried to work with other musicians many times, but always found out that it's difficult to express my own ideas and notions and it has always made me compromise. This time I was the only one with control and could deliver my dream perfectly.

7.You also have experience playing metal as far back as the 90's, do you feel that metal and all its genres have changed a lot in the last few decades?

Answer – It's not that the genres changed but rather evolved. All kinds of branches appeared throughout time, and that's what makes it unique.

8.The new ep was released on 'WormHoleDeath Records', are you happy with the support that they have given you so far?

Answer – I feel supported and comfortable with WormHoleDeath. The staff is very professional. Through them my exposure has become international.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and doom metal?

Answer – The most important part is that although these genres are common and known, many of the listeners and critics claimed that the genre I've created is unique. I was also glad to get responses from different parts of the world. It's really an honor.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

Answer – In a few months I am going to release my new full album. I never stop working and creating. I promise the album will be different and surprising.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that you are currently listening to nowadays?

Answer – Nowadays, I listen to Mariana's Rest, And Oceans and Ellende.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Answer – This is the beginning of a dream that has accompanied me all my life. Like the fantasy figures in my songs – I shall rise and spread my message – in the coldness, in the dark and with tears.

Yagon/A Raven's Tale/WormHoleDeath Records/2023 EP Review

Yagon  are  a  solo  project  from  Israel  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metqal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  203  ep  "A  Raven's  Tale"  which  will  be  released  on  march  31st  by  WormHoleDeath  Records.

Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  section  of  the  songs  at  times.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  log  and  epic  in  length  while  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  whilfew  songs  song  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  whispers  can  also be  heard  on  a  few  tracks.

Yagon  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  atmospheric  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  doom  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  sadness,  death  and  fantasy  themes.

In  my  opinion  Yagon  is  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRAKC S INCLUDE  "Kindred  Souls"  and  "Shadoew  And  Light".  8  out  of  10.
