Fauna/Ochre & Ash/Lupus Lounge/2025 Full Length Review

Fauna  are  a  band  from  Olympia,  Washington  that  plays  a  cascadian  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Ochre  &  Ash"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Lupus  Lounge.

Laughter  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  shamanistic  ritual  sounds  and  background  spoken  words  a  few  seconds  later.  Tribal  style  percussion  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  starts  going  into  a  heavier  direction  on  the  second  track.

At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  shouts  mixed  in  with  a  few  black  metal  screams  and  synths  are  also  used  at  times.

Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar riffing  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  utilized  briefly  and  clear  singing  is  also  added  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  shamanism  and  animism  of  early  Earth  hunters  and  gatherers.

In  my  opinion  Fauna  are  a  very  great  sounding  cascadian  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are   a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nature  And  Madness"  and  "Eternal  Return".  8  out  of  10.

Volloíom Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Volloíom is a vessel of my higher deamon.

A portal for luciferian light to shine from the abyss into this world.

Volloíom was started in 2021 and the project itself is my own brand of Satanism taking influence from traditions modern and ancient.

The majority of the music is performed by myself except for the drums but on ocassion I've had talented and worthy artists make their contribution or I've collaborated with others just on vocals on some of the promotional rehearsal material.

Daimonia has added a bit of his flare with some extra ambience in certain parts since we've started collaborating on as well.

2.In July you had released a new ep, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

I feel it's the strongest material I've released to date and closes out a cycle for the project.

3.Since 2024 you have released a great amount of ep.s and demos, do you spend a lot of time writing and creating music?

The writing process for Volloiom is a little unorthodox.

I tend to practice and write riffs leading up to a release and I usually just know when it's time to record.

The music comes out when it wants to. Baritone or guitar( depending on the release) is recorded in one take and then same with vocals and drums after.

I like to leave room for experimentation and the free form parts need to be authentic and in the momment

So I may have a clear idea of something but it will take on it's own form during the recording process.

I like to limit myself and my tools

and turn my brain off and let the antimonian current lead me forward

trusting my own instincts and black flame.

I work in pro audio as my career

Volloíom has allowed me to rebel against my own profession in a way.

I spend a lot of time reading grimoires and writing lyrics or doing sound in some way and I'm always listening to music.

Volloíom has a mind of it's own and I am but a mouthpiece led by its destructive current.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Theistic Satanism, Occultism and the Left Hand Path, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

I've always written about those subjects in my lyrics since I was young, but I think I've become less cryptic over time. Lyric writing was my gateway into occult literature.

My path is very personal to me.

It isn't a trend or gimmick like some others. It's a very real thing that I take seriously.

Sacred and for the few.

I've practiced in some form since I can remember.

My idea of Satanism is probably much different than others. I cannot stand certain bastardizations of the mysteries.

It keeps me grounded and is a very necessary and integral part of my life and my being.

5.I know that the band name is Oscan for 'To Destroy', how dos this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

It has a dual meaning.

It can be interpreted as the destruction of self during the trials of the void but also the destructive power that is wielded in godhood.

Destruction and creation

Spiritual death and rebirth

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The artwork was painted by Rotting Reign and is a custom piece that was inspired by my practice.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Nothing is fixed within Volloiom.

Yes, most likely.

8.The ep was released on 'Black Vomit Productions', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

A group of like minded artists fueled by creation of the black arts.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reaction has been great.

Although, I create for myself and if others align with the energies all the better.

10.Can you tell us a little bit more about the other musical projects the band members are involved with?

Aaveiv is Daimonia's(Drums) project and I've had session musicians from Qlipha play on some of the promotional rehearsals

Great bands and true artists.

Support their work.

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

The last release is as close to a full length as I've done but there is a different form of the project being moulded currently

Rehearsals are underway and playing live is the next immediate direction.

New material is always on my mind.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Bathory

Von

Acherontas

Lurker Of Chalice

Arckanum

Dissection

Blut Aus Nord

Portal

Kampfar

Teitanblood

Shaarimoth

Watain

Have all left a mark on me in their own way.

Besides black metal I like baroque music and jazz.

Lately, I've been listening to the new Acherontas tape. Some of their best work. Sorguinazia, from Alberta. Lilith worship done right.

Unholy Impurity and Athiel from Sardinia I would highly recommend as well.

The new Svartsyn and Teitanblood have been spinning regularly too, great albums.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Hail to true artists, practioners and fans.

Keep the black flame of Lucifer burning

Nattfly/Flocken/Kvlt und Kaos Productions/2025 Full Length Review

Nattfly  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  violin  orientated  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Flocken"  which  was  released  by  Kvlt  und  Kaos  Productions,

Distorted  sounding  electric  violins  start  of  the  album  while  also  capturing  the  heaviness  of  an  electric  guitar.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  blast b eats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  recording.

A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  Scandinavian  tradition  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  dissonant  sounding  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Gjallarhorn's Wrath Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Back in 2001, we founded a black metal band called Oblivion — the original lineup included Javi Arash and Lord Ashler. We recorded a demo and even had the chance to share the stage with Ancient. Although that project eventually faded without a clear reason, we always felt the need to fulfill what we started. Gjallarhorn’s Wrath was born from that desire — to finally record a full album and bring our vision to life.

When we decided to revive the project, we met Alex Caron, and we instantly knew he had to be the new voice of Gjallarhorn’s Wrath. His vocal range and presence perfectly matched the intensity we were looking for.

Now that the debut album is out, we want to keep moving forward — creating new music, exploring new ideas, and continuing the journey of Gjallarhorn’s Wrath.

---

2. In September you have a full-length coming out. Can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you have gone for on the recording?

Most of the songs begin with initial compositions by Javi Iron, who lays the foundation and structure. After that, each of us brings in our own parts — whether it's guitar lines, orchestration, lyrics, or atmospheric elements — making the final result a true blend of all our contributions.

When we first met Javi, he was very into bands like Satyricon, Limbonic Art, and Emperor, and those influences helped shape the early sound and direction of the project. The album itself is rooted in black metal, enriched with death metal elements and symphonic textures that give it a powerful yet immersive atmosphere.

---

3. A lot of your lyrics cover occult themes. Can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

Our fascination with the occult comes from a deep love for horror — especially classic horror films and the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. We’re drawn to that sense of mystery, dread, and the unknown. Through our music and lyrics, we aim to transport the listener to a mystical realm beyond this reality — a world shaped by ancient forces, forgotten rites, and cosmic darkness.

---

4. What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

While occult themes are a strong part of our identity, we believe it's also important to explore topics that go beyond the typical black metal framework. For example, our song A Silent Scream reflects the despair and emotional decay caused by abandonment. We delve into themes like sadness, unrequited love, inner torment, and the grotesque nature of the human psyche. These moments of misery and emotional ruin carry a raw, haunting beauty — and they fit naturally within the dark atmosphere we aim to create.

---

5. I know that the band name comes from Norse mythology. Can you tell us a little bit more about the research you have put into this subject?

The name Gjallarhorn’s Wrath is a direct reference to the mythical horn of Heimdallr, the guardian of the gods, which will sound at the beginning of Ragnarök. We were drawn to the powerful symbolism — a call to the end, to chaos, to transformation. While we don’t follow Norse mythology in a dogmatic or historical way, we’ve spent time exploring its stories, archetypes, and esoteric meanings. The myths are filled with raw violence, fate, and cosmic cycles — themes that resonate deeply with our music.

---

6. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The album cover was deliberately designed to be open-ended — like an unfinished canvas. Instead of revealing everything, it leaves space for the listener’s imagination, inviting them to step into the limbo we’ve created through our music. It visually connects with the world we created in the Wiccan Wyrd video clip: a kind of limbo, a place suspended between realities. At the center of this visual and lyrical concept is the Silver Key, which appears throughout the album. It’s a direct reference to one of Lovecraft’s tales — a symbol of transcendence, forbidden knowledge, and the door to other dimensions. Just like the music, the artwork invites the audience to step beyond the veil.

---

7.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

Right now, the members of Gjallarhorn’s Wrath are spread across different countries — I (Arash) live in Barcelona, Lord Ashler is based in London, Javi Iron is in Poland, and Alex Caron lives in Canada — so getting together isn’t easy.

That said, we’d absolutely love to bring this project to the stage. Maybe not a full tour, but we’re definitely open to doing a few special concerts — something meaningful, where the atmosphere and demand make it worth the effort. If people want to see us live, we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.

---

8. The album is coming out on 'Non Serviam Records'. How did you get in contact with this label?

Once we had the album fully recorded, we started searching for a label that truly understood our vision — one that supports extreme music with authenticity and passion. Non Serviam Records was at the top of our list. We sent them our work, and their response was immediate and enthusiastic. From the beginning, they’ve been incredibly supportive, and it’s clear they care deeply about the bands they work with. It’s an honor to release our debut album with a label that truly believes in what we’re creating.

---

9. On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Considering we’ve only released two singles so far and there’s a huge amount of competition within the metal scene, we’re really pleased with the response. Both video clips have received a solid number of views on YouTube, and it means a lot to see people discovering and connecting with our music so early on.

What’s truly exciting is reading the comments — people pointing out specific parts of the songs that moved them, or even saying we’ve become their new favorite band. That kind of feedback is incredibly motivating. Of course, we know this is just the beginning — and we hope that with the release of the full album, we’ll be able to reach even more listeners around the world who are drawn to this kind of dark, immersive sound.

---

10. Where do you see the band heading musically in the future?

We don’t want to be tied to any strict formula. While black metal is our foundation, we’re always drawn to new atmospheres, textures, and emotional extremes — whether it’s through orchestral layers, ambient darkness, or even heavier and more chaotic passages.

That said, for this debut album we consciously imposed some limitations to make sure it felt coherent — not just a collection of disconnected songs. In some cases, we removed guitar licks or entire sections for the greater good of the track or the flow of the album. It was all about serving the vision as a whole.

For the next release, we want to give ourselves more freedom to experiment — to explore other flavors and dynamics without fear. Each album should feel like a different portal into the world of Gjallarhorn’s Wrath, constantly evolving without losing our essence.

---

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music, and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Each member of Gjallarhorn’s Wrath has their own musical background and personal taste — and to be honest, I can’t speak for everyone. For example, I know Alex Caron besides Black Metal, he also enjoys listening to and singing deathcore, which adds a different edge to his vocal delivery.

As for me, I'm listening to a wide variety of styles. I love this is no Fairy Tale by Carach Angren, Wintersun album The Forest Seasons...and I also enjoy the Death metal bands coming out of Finland or Sweden. I guess we all bring a bit of that diversity into the band — even if our core sound is rooted in darkness.

---

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We want to thank everyone who has taken the time to listen, share, and support Gjallarhorn’s Wrath. This project is a labor of passion and darkness — a journey into mysticism, despair, and the unknown. We hope our music resonates with those who seek something beyond the ordinary, who want to dive deep into a world of shadows and forgotten secrets.

The full album is just the beginning. For those who feel the call of the darkness, stay close — much more awaits in the shadows.

Dashiem Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

Dashiem started in 2019 when I realised that it's too hard to gather members that  have the same interest and same passion in my occult black metal style.

Dashiem came to the light when I realised I have so much knowledge and love for the unknown and demonology, specifically in middle eastern and Egyptian witchcraft, which this knowledge must be presented by my musical atmosphere.

2.In 2023 you had released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

The EP was home-recorded, So i put really much effort into reaching the dark atmosphere that I seek. Since I'm talking about demonology and witchcraft, I created the ambience and dark vibe while i'm mixing and mastering the tracks.

After all you can say that my musical genre/theme is Occult/Orthodox Black Metal.

3.A lot of your lyrics cover Demonology, Arabian Witchcraft and Middle Eastern Magick, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

My interests in witchcraft or the darkside category in general, come from reading and seeking the knowledge of this forbidden art since I was 16 as I remember, and I read through the years so many books that were made by Egyptian witchcraft specialists, and also international masters.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dashiem'?

Dashiem is taken from a witchery book called "Book of the seventh Ifrits" containing seven chapters, each chapter has his own Ifrit with the incantation to summon him. So Dashiem is the third Ifrit from the fifth chapter.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The artwork is taken from a scene of the 1922 Swedish/Danish silent film "Häxan" , a documentary about witchcraft.

6.On the ep you recorded everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians in the studio or do you prefer to work solo?

I prefer to compose solo actually, but recently I started to rehersale my tracks with live/session members for a live performance.

7.With the live line up what are some of the best show s that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We made only one small live studio performance, it was actually great.

I describe my stage performance gloomy and ferventز

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

For now no, but we are trying to rehersale from time to time, and maybe we can make something bigger than the live studio.

9.Currnetly you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I didn't receive an offer till now, I only released my EP in a Cassette Tape by Narbentage production.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Actually it was really satisfying, and I was glad for the feedback.

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

A full length is expected to be out at the end of this year after mixing and mastering, I hope I can play live in the future with lineup of the bands I like, maybe in "Caerimonia Nidrosiæ Festival" in Norway.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Mainly black metal, I have influences  from so many bands like: Mare(Norway), Dodsengel, Nahasheol, Spectrum Mortis, Nightbringer, Hetroertzen...

Nowadays Iam listening to Akhlys, Gorgoroth, Enevelde, Demonic Temple, Darvaza, Qayin Regis.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I would like to thank you so much for having interest in my music, and I would like to say also that the new album will be improved in recording  but with the same black dim sound.

Olde Scratch Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Sure, while exploring a way to articulate a unique interpretation of the Black metal genre, I found myself drawn to the specter of the 1980s satanic panic. This fervent societal hysteria, particularly fixated on the alleged presence of subliminal messages back-masked onto vinyl records, inspired me to combine record scratching with the vehemence and dark undertones of Black metal.

2.So far you have released 2 albums, musically how do they both differ from each other?

The debut album drew inspiration from a medieval treatise cataloging the seven princes of Hell. Song titles and lyrics followed a rigid, structured framework, while the music pulsed with a hellish intensity, reflecting the esoteric themes rooted in the middle ages.

The vision for the second album embraces a more expansive exploration of the occult, delving into Mesopotamia and it’s influence across human history and culture. Musically, the second endeavor strives for a more refined approach, where the instrumentation converges in a more harmonious and ritualistic blend.

3.With your music you also avoid the traditional use of metal instruments, can you tell us a little bit more about this concept?

As a self-taught musician, I utilize software that converts my voice into editable MIDI notes. This technology enables me to orchestrate a vast array of virtual instruments, forming intricate sonic patterns.

Embracing the overarching meta concept of my project, I deliberately feature the art of record scratching, focusing on creating abrasive, rhythmic passages that emulate the tremolo-picked guitar riffs and blast beat drumming inherent to Black metal.

To further enrich the soundscape, a distorted guitar synth is incorporated as a melodic device driven by the thunderous cadence of deep, bellowing drums. Finally, drone intonations herald ominous tidings, enhancing the immersion and adding layers of depth to the overall auditory journey.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Occultism and Left Hand Path themes, how would you describe your interest in the dark arts?

Though I personally identify as an atheist, I have long been fascinated by occultism and its myriad themes. The rich tapestry of symbols, rituals, and esoteric wisdom woven throughout history has always intrigued me. The ancient framework of occult philosophies and its influence on contemporary doctrines and spiritual exploration is undeniable and worth investigating.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Olde Scratch’?

Olde Scratch is a name historically synonymous with the devil. Rooted in British and early American folklore, "Scratch" was possibly derived from the Old Norse "skratte," meaning goblin or monster.

Beyond the obvious wordplay, choosing "Olde Scratch" subversively channels the spirit of the Satanic Panic era, a time when music was vilified for challenging societal norms and provoking moral outrage.

6.On both of the album covers you used artwork from Gustave Dore, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in his work?

Gustave Doré has always captivated me. His baroque, surreal depictions of the underworld resonate perfectly with the themes I aim to explore, adding a timeless, otherworldly essence to my creative journey.

7.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

I’m open to working with other artists, whether on joint projects or splits. I have reached out to a few without success, so, we’ll see.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I have been looking; however, several inquiries have yet to be addressed, and there has been no interest up to now, but  I remain hopeful.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

I have fans across North America and throughout Europe, including countries like Great Britain, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Finland, Ukraine, Greece, Bulgaria, Denmark, and Serbia. My reach even extends to Brazil and all the way down under in Australia. I’m truly proud and grateful for this incredible worldwide support.

10.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

I am eager to continue harnessing the art of record scratching in innovative and unconventional ways. My goal is to transcend its traditional boundaries to craft auditory experiences that are both captivating and inexplicable.

Simultaneously, I plan to delve deeper into the realms of the occult and esoteric beliefs. With This fusion of sound and mysticism, I seek to create immersive, transformative music resonating with symbolism and an otherworldly allure.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I deeply appreciate the experimentation of modern jazz, the powerful energy of old school metal, and the distinctive, atmospheric beats of downtempo. My interests also extend to the more intense realms of blackened industrial and the unrelenting force of bestial death metal, complemented by the avant-garde artistry of Björk.

Recently, I have been particularly inspired by the evocative sounds of the Black metal underground. Bands such as Black Curse, Onw and Spectral Wound have left a significant impression on me.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

My journey with Black metal has been a reflection on the interplay between chaos and structure, disrupting traditional genre confines and unsettling expectations. Blending raw intensity with the unexpected texture of vinyl scratching was not just a creative choice, but an exploration of how contrasting elements can coexist and enhance one another.
