Wolfkrieg/Todesstrafe/We Are At War Records/2020 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Russia's  Wolfkrieg  and  Italy's  Todesstrafe  which  was  released  by  We  Are  At  War  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Wolfkrieg  who  return  with  their  national  socialist  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  drum  beats  and  heavy  riffing  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal screams  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  songs  also  giving  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  National  Socialism  and  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wolfkrieg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  national  socialist  black  metal  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Sons  Of  Hyperborea".

  Next up  is  Todesstrafe  who  return  with  their  national  socialist  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts out  with  World  War  II  era  German  military  music  samples  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  the  music  sticks  mostly  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  War,  Europe  and  National  Socialism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Todesstrafe  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  national  socialist  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  national  socialist  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Wolfkrieg/When The Cold Comes/We Are At War Records/2020 CD Review

 
  Russia's  Wolfkrieg  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  national  socialist  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "When  The  Cold  Comes"  which  was  released  by  We  Are  At  War  Records.

  Dark  sound  effects  start  off  the  album  before  going  into a   very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  briefly  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  couple  of tracks  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.

  The  music  also  shows  a  lot  of  roots  in  the  80's  but  also  maintaining  a  very  modern  sounding  atmosphere  at  the  same  times,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  also  adds  in  a  some  cinematic  elements,  choir  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics cover  National  Socialism,  War,  Paganism  and  Historical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Wolfkrieg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  national  socialist  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Fury  Of  The  Giants"  "We  Are  The  Troops  Of  Doom"  "Oblivion  And  Fear"  and  "God  Of  Lie".  8  out  of  10.

Wolfkrieg/Fire Of Ragnarok/Nymphaea Records/2017 CD Review

  Wolfkrieg  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  national  socialist  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Fire  Of  Ragnarok"  which  was  released  by  Nymphaea  Records.

  Epic sounding  synths  and  acoustic  guitars start  off  the  album  and  gives  the  music  more  of  a  bronze  age  feeling  and  they  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  style  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  introduces  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  and  the  synths  also  add  in  a  touch  of  classical  music  at  times.

  Folk  instruments  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  one  track  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  war  samples  and  clean  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  in  some  of  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  a  later  song  also  introduces  nature  sounds  onto  the  recording  and  acoustic  guitars  also  return  briefly  on  a  few  tracks  and  their  is  also  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads  for  a  few  seconds  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction.

  Wolfkrieg  creates  a  recording  that  brings  in  a  more  epic  side  of  national  socialist  pagan/black  metal  on  this  album,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Germanic  Paganism,  War  and  National  Socialism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wolfkrieg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  national  socialist  pagan/black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire  Of  Ragnarok"  "Eighty  Eight"  "Wotan's  Bowl"  and  "When  Wotan  Awakes".  8/5  out  of  10.

Wolfkrieg/Fatherland/Crush The Desert Records/2014 CD Review

  Wolfkrieg  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  national  socialist  form of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Fatherland"  which was released  by  Crush  The  Desert  Records.

  Thunder  sounds  start off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths a  few  seconds  later  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  an  epic  feeling  and  after  the  intro  nature  sounds  are  added  onto  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  guitars  as well  as  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  they  also  mix  the  epic  synths  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  solos  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  epic  metal  style  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Clean  playing can  be  heard  in certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  an  old  school  second  wave  style  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  time and  some  songs  also  bring  in  samples  from  Nazi  Germany  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  diversity  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  and  they  also  bring  in  an  instrumental  track  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  touch  of  classical  music  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Temozer's  "Werewolf"  which  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  before  closing  the  album  with  an  original  song.

  Wolfkrieg  plays  a  very  diverse  form  of  national  socialist  black  metal  on  this  recording  bringing  in  some  songs  that  are  very  raw  while  others  that  are  more  epic  and  atmospheric  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  national  socialism,  war  and  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Wolfkrieg  are  a  very  great  sounding  national  socialist  pagan/black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ashes  of  Arkona"  "Runes  Of  A  New  Order"  "Blood  Against  Gold"  and  "Mara's  Sadness".  8/5  out  of  10.
