Herzog/Mugwort/Amor Fati Productions/2026 Full Length Review

Herzog  are  a  band  from  Belgium t hat  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  very  aggressive  and  melancholic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Mugwort"  which  will  be  release d on  october  26th  by  Amor  Fati  Productions.

Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  yet  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams,  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Spoken  words  and  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  album  also  add  in  a lot  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  adding  some  atmospheric  touches.   When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  closing  track  is  also  an  instrumental.

On  this  recording  Herzog  brings  out  a  very  aggressive,  melancholic  and  traditional  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  shock,  pain  and  the  violence  of  losing  everything  you  held  true.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Herzog  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive  and  melancholic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dawn  Of  The  Prosper"  and  "Post-Truth".  8  out  of  10.
