Odious Devotion/Ylistysvirret/Signal Rex/2026 Full Length Review

Odious  Devotion  are  a  solo  project  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Ylistysvirret"  which  will  be  released  on  November  27th  by  Signal  Rex.

Raw  tremolo  picking  starts  off  the  album  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  faster  direction  while  also  introducing  blast  beats  into  the  music.   Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  of  the  genre  and  the  riffs  alsi  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear a   good  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style,  a  couple  of  tracks are  also  instrumentals  with  one  that  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  clear  singing  is  also  introduced  on  a  later  track

On  this  recording  Odious  Devotion  brings  out  a  very  raw,  old  school  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Finnish  and  English  and  cover  Darkness  and  Nature  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Odious  Devotion  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "the  Endless  Passing  Of  The  Cyclic  End"  and  "The  Cosmic  Darkness  And  Heavenly  Wisdom".  8  out  of  10.
