Hellspell where a band from Sweden that played a very fast, raw and primitive form of satanic black metal with a death metal edge and this is a review of their 1999 album "Devil's Might" which was released by Invasion Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths they are only used briefly and they add to the dark atmosphere that is coming out of the music.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very heavy, raw and primitive sounding with a good amount of death metal influences and dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing along with a brief use of soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads that have a traditional metal feeling to them.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with some deep death metal growls and clean singing, while the lyrics are written mostly in English with one song being written in Swedish and they cover Satanism, Archangels and Anti Christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Hellspell where a very great sounding fast, raw and primitive satanic black metal band with a melodic and death metal edge and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording.
