Raventale/CDXXII Thousand Years Of Crime And Murders/Ashen Dominion/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Raventale  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  old  school  and  symphonic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "CDXXII  Thousand  Years  Of  Crime  And  Murders"  which  was  released  by  Ashen  Dominion.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  The  recording  also  has  its  symphonic  moments  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

 Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffs  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  A  lot  of  the  recording  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words,  classical  guitars  are  also added  on  the  closing  song  which  id  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  humanity's  destructive  legacy.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Raventale  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  old  school  and  symphonic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Deathmarch"  and  "Kali  Yuga  Code".  8  out  of  10.

Raventale/Planetarium II/Ashen Dominion/2020 Full Length Review

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Raventale  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  returning  back  to  his  atmospheric  black  metal  roots  instead  of  the  funeral  doom  metal  style of  his  previous  release  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Planetarium  II"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Ashen  Dominion.

  Dark,  heavy  and  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  while  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  briefly  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling,.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style along  with  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  mostly a slow  or  mid  tempo  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  cosmic  mysteries,  clandestine  dimensions  and  extramundane  weirdness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Raventale  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  and  doom  metal, you  should  check  out  this album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Extra Terrestrial Arcana"  "The  Moon  In  The  Seventh  House"  and  "A  Temple  Of  My  Choice".  8  out  of  10.

Raventale/Morphine Dead Gardens/Ashen Dominion/2019 CD Review

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Raventale  has  returned  with  a  new  album  which  shows  the  music  moving  way  from  atmospheric  blackened  metal  and  focusing  more  on  a  funeral  doom  metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Morphine  Dead  Gardens"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Ashen  Dominion.

  Death  metal  growls  start  off  the  album  while  the  slow  and  heavy  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  funeral  doom  metal.  A  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding.

  Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard,  all  of  the  songs  also  stick  to  a  slower  musical  direction,  the  closing  track  is  also  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Raventale  moves  away  from  the  atmospheric  blackened  metal  sound  of  previous  releases  and  takes  his  music  into  more  of  a  funeral  doom  metal  direction  which  he  mixed  in  some  of  his  earlier  blackened  material  but  moves  completely  into  the  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  melancholic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Raventale  and  while  some  atmospheric  black  metal  fans  might  not  like  the  new  style,  I  can  see  this  appealing  to  fans  of  atmospheric  funeral  doom  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As  An  Empty  Shell"  and  "Morphine  Dead  Gardens".  8  out  of  10.

Raventale/Planetarium/Ashen Dominion/2017 CD Review

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Raventale  has returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  atmospheric  blackened  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017  album  "Planetarium"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Ashen  Dominion.

  A  very  dark,  heavy,  melodic  and  epic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  atmospheric  melodies.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  ambient  style  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track  which  also adds  in  spoken  word  parts  towards  the  end.

  Raventale  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  style  of  blackened  metal  that  was  established  on  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  new  order  and  new  chaos  themes  along  with  some  astrological  and  metaphysical  touches.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Raventale  and  if  you  are a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  doom,  you  should  check  out  this  recording. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gemini  -Behind  Two  Black  Moons"  and  "New  World  Planetarium".  8  out  of  10.

Raventale/Memories/Satanath Records/Dark East Productions/2013 Compilation CD Review

  Raventale  are  a  solo  project  from  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  blackened  metal  and  this  is a  review  of  his  2013  compilation  album  "Memories"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records  and  Dark  East  Productions.

  A  very  dark  synth  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  giving  the  music  and  epic  feeling  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  getting  more  heavy  and  melodic  while  also keeping  the  atmosphere  along  with  some grim  black  metal  screams  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  doom  metal  elements.

  A  lot  of  the  90's  style  of  dark  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  growls  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  and  there  is  also  a  brief  instrumental track  and  one  of  the  songs  also  brings  in  a  small  amnount  of  female  and  male  operatic  vocals.

  On  his  earlier  material  Raventale  played  a  musical  style  that  had  its  rooted  in  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal  while  also  mixing  in  the  doom/death  metal  sound  into  some  of  the  riffing  and  vocals  to  create  some  very  dark and  melancholic,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  forest,  rain,  darkness  and  depression  themes  along  with  a  few  tracks  being  written  in  his  native  tongue.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  compilation  from  Raventale  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  dark  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "My  Birds  Of  Misfortune"  "Nostalgia"  "Gone"  and  "Suicide  As  The  destined  End".  8  out  of  10.

Raventale/Dark Substance Of Dharma/Solitude Productions/BadMoodManMusic/2015 CD Review

  Raventale  are  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form of  blackened  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  album  "Dark  Substance  Of  Dharma"  which  was  released as  a  joint  effort  between  Solitude  Productions  and  BadMoodManMusic.

  A  very  dark,  avant  garde  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off the  album  along  with  some  synths  and  nature  sounds  as  well as  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  after  the  intro  the  music  gets  more  heavier  while  also  keeping  the  atmospheric  elements  while  also  going  into  more  of  a  black  metal   direction.

  When  vocals  are  utilized  they  are  very  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  parts  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  chanting  and  the  riffs  also  mix  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  at  times,  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  speeds  up  and  goes  fro  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  that  also  uses  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks  brings  in  an  influence of  doom  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  bit  of  the  Eastern  European  atmospheric black  metal  sound  at  times  and  towards the  end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  while  one  of  the  riffs  is  a  remake  of  The  Scorpions  "Fly  To  The  Rainbow"  and  the  last  track  brings  in  a  melodic  guitar  lead.

  Raventale  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  on  this  recording  that  is  very  modern,  atmospheric  and  melodic  while  also  having  its  raw  moments  at  times  along  with  a  touch  of  dark  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Indian,  Tibetan and  Eastern  Mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Raventale  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  project  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Destroying The  Seeds  Of  Karma"  and  "I  Am  The  Black  Tara'.  8  out  of  10.
