Vredehammer/God Slayer/Indie Recordings/2024 Full Length Review

Norway's  Vredehammer  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "God  Slayer"  which  will b e  released  on  may  24th  by  indie  Recordings.

A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into a   heavier  direction.  Elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal screams  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  Keyboards  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  as  well  as  the  album  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts,  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

On  this  recording  Vredehammer  bring  elements  of  atmospheric  black  and  melodic  death  metal  into  a  modern  style  of  thrash  metal  to  create  some  thing  very  different  from  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  despair  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vredehammer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  melodic  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "From  The  Abyss"  "The  Dragons  Burn"  and  "Obliterator".  8  out  of  10.

Vredehammer/Viperous/Indie Recordings/2020 CD Review

Norway's  Vredehmmer  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  modern,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal  style and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Viperous"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Indie  Recordings.

Keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  bring  elements  of  electronic  music  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  giving  the  songs  the  atmosphere  of  a  horror  movie  soundtrack  before  going  into a  heavier  direction.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  tremolo  picking  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  technical  style.

The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  all  of  the musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Synths  also  make  a  return  on  some  of  the  other  tracks  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  elements  of  death  metal  can  be  heard  in some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  blast  beats  but  are  not  as  much  utilized  like  they  where  on  the  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Vredehammer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Winds  of  Dysphoria"  "Viperous"  "Wounds"  and  "From  A  Spark  To  A  Withering  Flame".  8 out  of  10.

Vredehammer/Violator/Indie Recordings/2016 CD Review

Vredehammer  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  was  actually  featured  in  this  blog  in  the  very  early  days  and  plays  an  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Violator"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Indie  Recordings.

A  very  heavy  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  riffs  before  adding  in  more  of  a  modern  and  technical  black/death  metal  sound  as  well  as  some  growling  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  style  can  be  heard.

Blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  very  melodic  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  touch  of  thrash  which  also  makes  the  songs  have  more  of  a  catchy  feeling  and  as  the  album  progresses  atmospheric  sounds  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  small  amount  of spoken  word  parts  while  the  last  couple  of  tracks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  guitars.

Vredehammer  creates  a  recording  that  sees  the  band  moving  away  from  it's  Norwegian  black  metal  influence  of  previous  recordings  and  going  for  more  of  a  modern  and  melodic  blackened  death  metal  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  based  on  the  writings  of  Stephen  King.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Vredehammer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Light  the  Fucking  Sky"  "Deadfall"  and  "Cyclone".  8  out  of  10.

Vredehammer Interview

1. Can you give us a brief history of the band?

Sure. It started the 9th of march this year. I decided to start the band and that..s basically it.

2. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

Cold as winter, raw and honest.

3. How is being a 1 man project different than being a full band?

You don..t have to listen to other peoples opinions. So, the answer is: Better.

4. When can we expect an e.p or full length?

My guess is the summer of 2009. Maybe sooner.

5. How would you describe the lyrical content of your music?

Twisted words from a twisted mind.

6. What are your main influences music wise or non music wise?

The purity of nature, winter and a general disbelief in the human race.

7. What are you listening to nowadays and what are some good bands or releases that you would recommend?

I only listen to the sound of nature. The wind, the animals, the sea, and the voices in my head. I recommend that people listen to what makes them feel something real.

8. What rule does Satanism or Occultism play in the music or life?

None. A thought or an ideology should not be given a name. We all think differently, therefore our thoughts cannot be categorized.

9. What are some good books or films that you would recommend?

I recommend the book "a new world" and the movie "kung pow". Both are good examples that you should not take life too seriously.

10. What is your opinion of the black metal scene in Norway?

Once it meant something. today it consists mainly of kids who like to dress in black and be a part of something they think is special. But they are really no different from the rest of the world. However, some of the bands do a good job.

11. Any final words?

Yes, and remember these words: Without honour, we are nothing!

12.Thanks for the interview?

Thank you for your time.
