Harakiri For The Sky/Scorched Earth/AOP Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Austria's  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Scorched  Earth"  which  will  be  released  on. January  24th,  2025  by  AOP  Records.

  Atmospheric  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  melancholic  black  metal  screams  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  At  times  the  vocals  also  bring  in  more  of  an  angry  hardcore  style  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  grunge  rock  elements.  Clean  female  and  male  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  there  is also  some  session  work  from  members  of  Austere,  Svalbarduk,  Groza  and  Backwords  Charm,  one  of  the  bonus  tracks  is  also  a  Radiohead  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  existential  despair,  inner  turmoil  and  the  human  condition.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heal  Me"  "No  Graves  But  The  Sea"  and  "Too  late  For  Goodbyes".  8  out  of  10.

Harakiri For The Sky/Maere/AOP Records/2021 CD Review

 

  Austria's  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  going  into  an  atmospheric  post  black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Maere"  which  will  be  released  on  January  29th  by  AOP  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  elements  of  post  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  along  with  some  keyboards  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  Acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  album  and  there  are  also  some  quest  appearances  from  members  of  Alcest  and  Gaerea.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  trauma,  delirium  and  loss  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Harakiri  For  the  Sky  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.,  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I,  Pallbearer"  "I'm  All  About  The  Dusk"  "And  Oceans  between  Us"  and  "Song  to  Say  Goodbye".  8  out  of  10.

Harakiri For The Sky/Arson/AOP Records/2018 CD Review

  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  are  a  band  from  Austria  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  post black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Arson"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  AOP  Records.

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  and  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  black metal  screams  as  well  a s all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  tracks  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  post  rock  elements along  with  the  songs also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well as  the songs  also  getting  very  atmospheric  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars can  also  be  heard  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Graveyard  Lover's  "Manifesto"  which  also  brings  in  female  vocals.

  Harakiri For  The  Sky  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression  and  suicide  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire,  Walk  With  Me" "Heroin  Waltz"  and  "Voidgazer".  8  out  of  10.

Harakiri For The Sky/Self Titled/Art Of Progaganda/2012 CD Review

  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  are  a  band  from  Austria  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2012    album  which  was  released  by  Art  Of  Propaganda.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,   while  the  synths  when  they  are  utilized  bring  a  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  to the  recording,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  melodic  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  some  raw  and  primitive  sounding  elements  at  times,  while  throwing  in  a  great  amount  of  post  rock  influences  in  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  add  some  progressive  elements  to  the  recording.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  with  some  clean  singing  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressing  and  nihilistic  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  with  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Harakiri  For  The  Sky  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  atmospheric  black  metal  and  post  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lungs  Filled  With  Water"  and  "Drown  In  My  Nihilism".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
