Austria's Harakiri For The Sky have returned with a new recording which shows them going into an atmospheric post black metal direction and this is a review of their 2021 album "Maere" which will be released on January 29th by AOP Records.
Clean playing starts off the album while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody along with all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. elements of post are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some keyboards also being added into certain sections of the recording. Acoustic guitars are also added on some of the tracks as well as o0ne song also introducing clean vocals onto the album and there are also some quest appearances from members of Alcest and Gaerea. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover trauma, delirium and loss themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Harakiri For the Sky and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal, you should check out this recording., RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I, Pallbearer" "I'm All About The Dusk" "And Oceans between Us" and "Song to Say Goodbye". 8 out of 10.
