Vipère are a duo from France that plays a very raw, old school and medieval form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 demo "Sombre Marche" which was released by Vetus Capra.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the demo along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later while some of the riffing shows an influence of punk rock. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's to early 2000's era and when t he music speeds up a decent amount of b last beats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music a raw feeling while a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with one of the tracks also introducing clean playing and clear vocals onto the recording.
When guitars solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the closing track is also adding in synths and flute which also gives the recording more of a medieval atmosphere. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Vipère are a very great sounding raw, old school and medieval black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Multiface" and "Inegilities de Bell". 8 out of 10.
