Ontario. Canada's Plague Weaver heave returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an atmospheric and old school mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "Ascendant Blasphemy" which will be released in February.
Distorted soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the slower sections of the songs also bringing in elements of doom metal.
Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and death metal growls while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The songs also add in a decent amount of 90's influences but also keeps it modern at the same time along with the solos and leads being done in a very dark yet melodic style as well as the music also having its atmospheric moments, clean playing can also be heard briefly on a couple of songs and as the album progresses a brief use of keyboards can also be heard. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanic Philosophies.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Plague Weaver and if you are a fan of atmospheric and old school black and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nothing Is Sacred" "Seek To Betray" and "In Exitium Caeli". 8 out of 10.
