This is a review of a split album between Germany's Black Autumn and The Mountain King called "Rauhnaucht MMXX" which will be released in February by Cursed Monk Records and we will start off the review with Black Autumn a solo project who returns with his mixture of ambient black and doom metal.
His side of the split starts out with some ambient style synths along with some drum beats a few seconds later while spoken word samples can also be heard briefly. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the heavier and slower sections of the music along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing.
Clean playing can also be heard at times along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style as well as all of the music also sticking to a slower direction that is mostly instrumental while the production sounds very professional.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Black Autumn and if you are a fan of ambient black and doom metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Falling Like Fire".
Next up is The Mountain King a solo project that plays a mixture of drone and doom metal.
His side of the split starts out with some distorted sounding drones an ambient style synths along with some drum beats a few seconds later. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the bass guitars are also used as a lead instrument and the vocals are done in mostly a clean style.
The music also incorporates a great amount of psychedelic elements along with one of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. Clean playing can also be heard on second track which is also an instrumental as well as all of the music also sticking to slower direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion The Mountain King are a very great sounding psychedelic drone/doom metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Circadian Clocks".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of black and doom metal.
