Void are a solo project form San Antonio, Texas that takes an atmospheric and depressive style of post black metal and mixes it with funeral doom metal and dark ambient and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "Dreams Of A Painted World".
Sounds of wind start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking. The music also brings in elements of post metal while the synths also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling when they are utilized and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the synths also add in some dark ambient sections.
Most of the music is instrumental along with some clean playing also being added into some parts of the music as well as some violins and samples also being utilized at times. Melodic chants can also be heard briefly and the slower sections of the songs also add in the heaviness of funeral doom metal, the music also has it depressive moments while the production sounds very dark and raw.
In my opinion Void are a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric depressive post black, funeral doom metal and fark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crossing the Mist" and "Death Knell". 8 out of 10.
