Funeral Harvest/Malum in Se/Amor Fati Productions/2025 EP Review

 

  Italy/Norway's  Funeral  Harvest  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "Malum  in  Se"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Amor  Fati  Productions.

  A  very  dark  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  while  synths  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  spoken  words  and  whispers  are  also  added  on  a  later  song  and  the  ep  closes  with  a  Celestial  Bloodshed  cover.

  On  this  recording  Funeral  Harvest  remain  true  to  the  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  style  of  black  metal  that  they  have  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Luciferian,  Devil  Worship  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Harvest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Draco  Nequissime"  and  "Angel  of  Violence".  8  out  of  10.

Funeral Harvest/Redemptio/Signal Rex/2022 Full length Review

 

  Funeral  Harvest  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Italy  and  Norway  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw,  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Redemptio"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Signal  Rex.

  A  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  Gregorian  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  the  vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  also  get  deep  at  times..   

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.   Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of t he  guitar  riffing  while  the  album  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Clear  vocals  can  also be  heard  briefly  along  with a  later  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  spoken  word  parts  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and r aw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Demonology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Harvest  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire  Sermon"  "Womb  Of  Snakes"  and "Sorath".  8  out  of  10.

  Funeral  Harvest  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Norway  and  Italy  that  plays  a  very  raw,  satanic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  ep  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Signal  Rex.

  Ritualistic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  Gregorian  chants  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Funeral  harvest  plays  a  style  of  satanic  black  metal  that  is  very  raw and  old  school  in  the  90's  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Funeral  Harvest  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sacred  Dagger"  and  "Omega".  8  out  of  10.
