Wode/Uncrossing The Keys/20 Buck Spin/2025 Full Length Review

 

  United  Kingdom's  Wode  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  blackened  form  of  heavy  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Uncrossing  The  Keys"  which  will  be  released  in  october  by  20  Buck  Spin.

 A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  traditional  metal  elements  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  on  a  few  tracks..  A  couple  of  songs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  keyboards,  synths  and  organs  and  most  of  the  album  also  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  and  clean  playing  is  added  on  the  closing  song.

  On  this  recording  Wode  goes  for  more  of  a  blackened  heavy  metal  style  which  also  also  very  different  from  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  apocalypse,  cosmos,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wode  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  heavy  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Two  Crossed  Keys"  "Transmutation"  "Lash  Of  The  Tyrant"  and  "Dashed  on  The  Rocks".  8 out  of  10.

Wode/Burn In Many Mirrors/20 Buck Spin/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Wode  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  profane  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Burn  In  Many  Mirrors"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  elements  of  death  metal.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  lot  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Vocals  are  mostyl  blackened  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  synths,  keyboards  and  sound  effects  effects  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  as  well  as  one  of  the  songs  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  album.

 Clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  when  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  having  their  chaotic  moments  as  well  as  some  of  the  music  also  showing  an  influence  of  80's  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Chaos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wode  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  profane  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lunar  madness"  and  "Vanish  Beneath".  8  out  of  10.

Wode/Self Titled/Broken Limbs/2016 CD Review

  Wode  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  an  apocalyptic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  album  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Broken  Limbs.

  Atmsopheric  sounds  and  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  riffing  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  once  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  fast  riffs  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  lot  of  90's  and  Swedish  influences  while  still  also  sounding  very  modern  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Wode  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  traditional,  raw  and  melodic  while  also  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover the  apocalypse,  cosmos  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Wode  are  a  very  great  sounding  apocalyptic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS INCLUDE  "Trails  Of  Smoke"  and  "Black  Belief".  8  out  of  10.
