Paganland/Galizier/Blackest Records/2020 Full Length Review

Ukraine's  Paganland  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the atmospheric  style  of  pagan  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Galizier"  which  will  be  released  on  February  29th  by  Blackest  Records.

Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  they  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  elements.

At  times  the keyboards  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  symphonic  feeling  as  well as  one  track  also  introducing  clean  vocals  onto  the  recording,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  WWII  samples  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  Ukrainian  Galician  Military  and  their  fight  against  communism  during  World  War  II.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Paganland  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Legionary"  and  "Galician  Night".  8  out  of  10.

Paganland/XX Years Of Paganland/Azermedoth Records/2018 Live Album Review

Paganland  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  live  album  "XX  Years  Of  Paganland"  which  will  be  released on  July  31st  by  Azermedoth  Records.

A  keyboard  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  with  the  keyboards also  mixing  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  band  also  interacting  with  the  audience  at  times  as  well  as  the  songs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  folk  music,  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  riffing  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

On  this  live  recording  Paganland  remains  true  to  their  epic  style  of  pagan  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  Paganism  and  the  runes  o  the  Veles  book  and  runic  manuscripts  from  the  library  of  Anna  Yaroslavna.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Paganland  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  live  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "At  The  Heart  Of  The  Carpathians"  "Black  Mountain"  and  "The  Gloom".  8  out  of  10.

Paganland/From Carpathian Land/Svarga Music/2016 CD Review

Ukraine's  Paganland  have  returned  with  a  new  album  that  continues  the  pagan  black  metal  style  of  previous  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "From  Carpathian  Land"  which  will  be  released  in  November.

Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  classical  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  keeping  the  atmospheric  elements  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  when  guitar  leads and  solos  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the recording  and  they  also  close  the  recording  with  an  instrumental  outro.

Paganland  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  pagan/black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  while also  having  its  epic,  raw  and  melodic  moments,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  Heathenism  and  Witchcraft  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Paganland  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan/black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "At  the  Heart  Of  Carpathians"  and  "The  Gloom".  8  out  of  10.

Paganland/Fatherland/Svarga Music/2015 CD Review

Paganland  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Fatherland"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Svarga  Music.

Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  giving  the  music  a  feeling  of  a  fantasy  movie  soundtrack  before  going  into  a  heavier  music  while  still  mixing  in  keys  as  well  as  some  melodies  and  growling  vocals  and  after  awhile  clean  singing  pagan  vocals  and  grim  black  metal  screams  start  becoming  a  huge  part  of  the  recording

At  times  you  can  hear  a  slight  melodic  death  metal  and  thrash  feeling  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

During  some  of  the  faster  sections  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  all  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  medieval  folk  music  elements  which  are  done  mostly  by  keyboards  and  some  of  the  faster  riffs  add  a  touch  of  rawness  to  the  music.

Paganland  creates  another  very  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric  pagan/black  metal  recording  with  this  album  and  continue  to  expand  on  the  sound  of  previous  material,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  Heathenism  and  Witchcraft.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Paganland  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Voice  Of  The  Carpathians"  "Native  World!  Shattered  Eagle!"  and  "Fatherland".  8  out  of  10.

Pagan Land/Wind Of Freedom/Svarga Music/2013 CD Review

Pagan  Land  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Wind  Of  Freedom" which  was  released  by  Svarga  Music.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced   to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,    while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  epic  sound  to  the  recording  along  with  a  brief  use  of  flutes,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  pagan  black  metal  riffs  that  use  a  good  amount  of  melody,  doom   metal  and  folk  influences, while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  pagan  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  they  are  only  utilized  briefly  and  they  use  finger  picking  to  add  more  medieval  elements  to  the  recording.

Vocals  range  from  clean  singing  pagan  vocals,  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  deep  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Slavic  Paganism  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful and  heavy  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Pagan  Land  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shadows  Of  The  Past"  "Night  Forest" and  "Wind  Of  Freedom".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
