Taiga/Cosmos/Symbol Of Domination Productions/Final Gate Records/2017 CD Review

  Russia's  Taiga  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  atmospheric  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Cosmos"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and  Final  Gate  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths  start  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of t he  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  meaning  mostly depressive  black  metal  screams  and  cries.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  depressive  post  rock  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style.

  Taiga  creates  another  recording that  remains  true  to  the  depressive  and  atmospheric  style  of black  metal  that  was  established  on  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  depression,  mental  illness  and  isolation  themes.

 In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taiga  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Styd"  "Ty"  "Slova  Poteryayat  Znacheniye"  and  "Svoimi  Rukami".  8   out  of  10.

Taiga/Sky/Symbol Of Domination Productions/United by Chaos/2016 CD Review

  Taiga  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Sky"  which  will be released  in  September  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and   United  By  Chaos.

  Acoustic  guitars  along  with  some  melodic  yet  distorted  leads  start  off  the  album  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  which  also  uses  a  decent amount  of  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  edge.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  some  of  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  more  of  a  modern,  melodic  and  atmospheric  style and  some  of the tracks  are  very  long  and  epic in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  clean  playing  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  ambient  elements  while  a  later  song  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  the  music  also  sticks  to  mostly a   slow or  mid  paced  direction.

  Taiga  plays  a  style  of  depressive  black  metal  that  is  very  guitar  driven,  modern,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  darkness,  depressive  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taiga  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  back  metal, you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Recognizing  The  Insignificance"  "The  Sky  Has  Not Died"  and  "Hope".  8 out  of  10.

Taiga/Ashen Light/Satanath Records/Metallic Media/Le Crepuscle Du Soir Productions/2014 CD Review

  This  is  another  review  of  an  album  from  Russia's  Taiga  with  this  one  being  released  before  the  current  one  I  reviewed  and  also  being  in  an  atmospheric  and  depressive  direction  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Ashen  Light"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records,  Metallic  Media  and  Le  Crepuscle  Du  Soir  Productions.

  Am  radio  sounds  and  depressive  cries  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  guitar  playing  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  for  more  of  a  modern,  heavy  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  while  also  adding  in  suicidal  screams  and  melodies  in  both  of  the  riffs  and  guitar  leads.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  also  make  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album progresses  a  brief  use  of  melodic  singing  can  be  heard  and  the  whole  album  sticks  either  to  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  and  there  is  also  brief  use  of  ambient  elements.

  Taiga  played  a  style  of  black  metal  on  this  recording  that  was  very  atmospheric,  slow,  depressive  and  melodic,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Taiga  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternity  In  The  Empty  Skies"  "Among  The  Gray  Walls"  and  "Earthshine".  8  out  of  10.

Taiga/Gaia/Symbol Of Domination Productions/Metallic Media/2015 CD Review

  Taiga  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  depressive  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Gaia"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and  Metallic  Media.

  Ocean  sounds  start  off  the  album  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  starts  getting  more  heavy  and  melodic  along  with  some drum  beats  and  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  at  times  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  the  solos  are  very  melodic  and  are  rooted  in  the  more  modern  style  of  the  genre.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  a  couple  of  the  later  tracks  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  and  clean  playing  and  as  the  album  progresses blast  beats  and  a  more  raw  and  fast  sound  can  be  heard  at  times  while  the  main  focus  remains  on  a  slow  style  of  depressive  black  metal  the  vocals  also  start  getting  more deep  and  angry  as  the  recording  moves  on  while  also  adding  in  melodic  singing towards  the  end.

  Taiga  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  modern,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  depressive  while  also  having  a  raw  edge  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  nature  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Taiga  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Icy Dust"  "Gaia"  "Teno'  and  "Past Scars".  8  out  of  10.
