Hexbane are a band from Greece that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2026 ep "From Hell" which will be released in September as a joint effort between the Circle Music and Hell's Fire Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the music also adding in influences from both the first and second wave era's of the genre and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very old school style along with the recording also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Synths can also be heard briefly along while some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of melody and the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's era, when tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the ep more of a raw feeling.
Hexbane plays a style of black metal that goes back to the old school era of the genre with a more modern take. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Hexbane are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Nefarious Spells". 8 out of 10.
