Vathos Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

1. Our main preoccupation right now is the release of our new album Underwater. We want to give our fans on the 11th of April the best night, the perfect night.

2.You have your first full length coming out in April, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

2. The evolution period of our style with elements from atmospheric post black, melodic death metal with a diverse influence of sub-genres from the extreme side of music resulting in a mixture of melody and aggression as we start to define our own sound in a such a short time span. Music which catches the listeners’ attention and underground scene following by 2 years of concerts.

3.Your music is mostly rooted in post black metal, what separates you from other bands that are put into this category?

6. The idea behind the artwork is a post apocalyptic scenery in which the ruins of a striving civilization stand as proof of a greatness the may never be reinstalled.

Vathos/Underwater/Loud Rage Music/2020 CD Review

Vathos  are  a  band  from  Romania  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  melodic  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Underwater"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Loud  Rage  Music.

A  very  dark,  heavy,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  also  get  very  deep  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  post  metal  elements.

Clean  playing  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Melodic  vocals  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

Elements  of  melodic  death  metal  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  album  as  well  as  some  touches  of  shoegaze  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  guitar  leads  and  most  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

In  my  opinion  Vathos  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal  and  melodic  death  metal and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Suicide"  "Hold  My  breath"  and  "Flower  of  Death". 8  out  of  10.
