Trist/Lonesummer/Ars Magna Recordings/2012 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Czech  Republic's  Trist  and  Pennsylvania's  Lonesummer, 2  one  man  projects  which  have  been  featured  before  in  this  zine,  with  the  album  being  released  by  Ars  Magna  Recordings  in  2012  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Trist  which  plays  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  and  doom.

  "Vabeni  pokogne  tmy"  begins  with  some  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drum  programming  and  as  the  song  moves  on  you  can  hear  some  powerful  bass  playing  which  leads  to  some  background  black  metal  vocals  along  with  some  melody  and  doom  metal  elements  and  as  the  song  moves  on  the  riffing  gets  more  diverse.

  Song  themes  cover  darkness  and  depression,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  you  can s till h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  song.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  song  from  Trist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black/doom,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  recording.  RECOMMENDED.

Next  up  is  Lonesummer  with  the  musical  style  being  a  mixture  of  black  metal  and  shoegaze.

  "Regrettably, Our  Harvest  Never  Grows"  begins  with  some  experimental  sound  effects  and  clean  guitar  playing  and  after  awhile  drum  programming  and  fast  primitive  black  metal guitar  riffs  make  their  way  into  the  song  as  well  as  some  shoegaze  melodies  and  background  depressive  screams  and  cries  which  lead  to  the  music  slowing  down  a  bit  and  then  making  the  switches  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts.

  "Ghost  Stories"  begins  with  some  primitive  post  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  programmed  drums  which  in  turn  leads  to  some  depressive  screams  and  cries  as  well  as  some  shoegaze  guitar  leads  and  powerful  bass  guitar  coming  into  the  song.

  "No  More  Bonfires"  begins  with  some  post  rock  style  guitar  riffs  and  programmed  drums  which  in  return  leads  to  some  melodic  shoegaze  guitar  leads  and  depressive  black  metal  screams.

  "Clouded  Eyes  And  Candlelights"  begins  with  some  primitive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  and  drum  beats  which  leads  to  some  depressive  screams  and  cries  making  their  way  into  the  mix  and  after  awhile  the  song starts  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts.

  "Mundane  Dreams  About  Flash  Floods"  begins  with  some  melodic  guitar  riffing  and  drum  beats  setting  up  the  pace  for  some  black  metal  screams  and  as  the  song  moves  on t he  riffing  gets  more  diverse  and  adds  in  some  clean  post  rock  elements  before  getting  heavy  again.

  Song  lyrics  cover  family,  solitude  and  death,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Lonesummer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  experimental  and  shoegaze,  you should c heck  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ghost  Stories"  and  "Mundane  Dreams  About  Flash  Floods".  RECOMMENDED.

   In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black/doom  metal  or  post  black  metal,  you  should  add  this  album  to  your  collection.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Trist/Zrcadleni Melancholie/Fallen Empire Records/Eisenwald/2013 Vinyl Re-Issue Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Trist  which  continues  their  atmospheric  hybrid  of  depressive  black  metal  and  doom  with  the  album  originally  being  released  in  2007  and  re-issued  in 2013  as  a  joint  effort  between  Fallen  Empire  Records  and  Eisenwald  with  the  recording  being  called  "Zrcadleni  Melancholie".

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  playing  with  no  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  synths  bring  a  very  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  to  the  recording,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  atmospheric  and  depressive  black    metal  with  melodic  doom  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals a re  all  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams, while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  their  native  tongue  and  cover  melancholy,  pain  and  abstract  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  two  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Trist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Posledni  Cesta".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Chezch  Republic's  Trist  and  France's  Nuit  Noire  which  was  released  by  Fallen  Empire  Records  in  2012  and  we  will  start  of  the  review  with  Trist  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  that  combines  atmospheric  black  metal  with  doom.

  Vocals  are  all  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams,  while t he  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  their  only  song  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Trist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive,  atmospheric  black  metal  mixed  with  melodic  doom,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  recording.  RECOMMENDED.

  Next  up  is  Nuit  Noire  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  and  punk.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  primitive  black  metal  with  punk  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on t heir  side  of  the  recording.

  Vocals  are  mostly  clean  singing  punk  rock  style  vocals  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  faerie  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Nuit  Noire  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  primitive  black  metal  and punk  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Fairies  Fuck  Humans".  RECOMMENDED.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  like  you  black  metal  diverse,  you  should  add  this  recording  to  your  collection.  RECOMMENDED.

  Trist  are  a  one  man  band  from  the  Chezch  Republic  that  plays  a  very  depressive  from  of  black  metal  mixed  in  with  some  doom  metal  influences  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2006  album  "Stiny"  which  was  released  by  Insikt.

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  depressive,  suicidal  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  some  doom  metal  influences  and  dark sounding  melodies  with  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  variety  in  addition  the  music  is  very  raw  and  primitive  when  it  comes  to  the  riffing and  there  are  little  to  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  are  all  grim  sounding  depressive,  suicidal  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in their  native  tongue  with  themes  that  cover  melancholy,  pain,  negativity  and  dark  abstract  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion Trist  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  primitive  depressive, suicidal  black  metal band with  a  doom  metal  edge  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  style,  you  should  check out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Samota"  and  "Stiny".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
