Odraza/Acedia/Godz of War Productions/2021 EP Review

 

  Poland's  Odraza  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  avant  garde,  dissonant  and  experimental  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  release  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Acedia"  which  will  be  released  on  May  21st  by  Godz  Of  War  Productions.

  A  very  dark  yet  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  while  the  first  track  is  also  over  20  minutes  in  length  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  tortured  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  heavier  riffing.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  ep  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  adding  in  some  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  dissonant  moments,  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  

  On  this  recording  Odraza  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  experimental  as  well  as  mixing  in  a  lot  of  black  metal  elements  and  dissonant  structures  to  create  a  very  different  sounding  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  alcohol,  depression  and  vanity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Odraza  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  and  dissonant  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Odraza/Rzaczom/Godz Of War Productions/2020 CD Review

  Odraza  are  a  duo  from  Poland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  a  modern  and  aggressive  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album "Rzaczom"  which  was  released  by  GodZ  Of  War  Productions.

  Keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  music  also  has  its  brutal  moments.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  having  a very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  At  times  deeper  yet  aggressive  vocals  are  also  utilized  as  well  as  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  singing  on  a  few  songs  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melody  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  a  more  modern  style.

  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  music  also  brings  in  some  avant  garde  and  dissonant  structures  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  tracks  also  start  getting  more  experimental  sounding  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  album  also  closes  with  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while t he  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  alcohol,  depression  and  vanity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Odraza  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  modern  and  aggressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Schadenfreude"  "...twoja  rzecz  tez"  "Mlot  na  male  miasta"  and  "Ja  nie  stad".  8  out  of  10.

Odraza/Esperalem Tkane/Arachnophobia Records/Musica Noire Records/2015 Vinyl Re-Issue Review

  Odraza  are  a  duo  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  angry,  raw  and  hateful  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Esperalem  Tkane"  which  was  released  by  Arachnophobia  Records originally  and  will  be  re-issued  on  vinyl  this  year  by  Musica  Noire  Records.

  Wind  and  thunderstorm  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  musical  direction  that  also  brings  in  a  touch  of  groove  and  after  awhile  more  reverb  and  drums  are  added  into  the  music  which  leads  up  to  more  of  a  black  metal  direction  that  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  angry  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the   recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  having  more  of  a  modern  approach  to  black  metal  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  along  with  some  tracks  also  showing  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  sound.

  As  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  few  tracks  that  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  music  at  times  also  brings  in  some  depressive  elements  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  briefly  they  are  in  a  very  melodic direction  and  bring  in  some  non  black  metal  influences  to  the  bands  musical  style  and  at  times  the  blast  beats  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  brutal  edge  and  the  vocals  also  get  very  deep  and  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  growls  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  on  a  later  song  you  can  also  hear  a  touch  of  blues  rock.

  Odraza  plays  a  very  angry  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  diverse  while  also  being  very  heavy,  raw  and  sometimes  brutal  but  always  displaying  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  Alcohol.,  Depression  and  Vanity.

  In  my  opinion  Odraza  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  aggressive,  angry  and  diverse  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wielki  Mizogin"  "Gorycz"  and  "Tam,  gdzie  nas  nie  spotkamy".  8  out  of  10.
