Skarntyde/Da jeg gr​å​t ved jordens ruiner/Trollmusic/2022 EP Review

 

  Germany's  Skarntyde  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Da  jeg  gr​å​t  ved  jordens  ruiner"  which  was  released  by  Trollmusic.

  Melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and   raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a   very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  to  mid  2000's  Norwegian  style  along  with  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  all  of t he  music  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction,  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Skarntyde  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  more  influenced  by  the  2000's  era  of  Norwegian  black  metal  instead  of t he  90's  style  that  most  bands  go  for.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  eco  anarchism  themes.

   In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording f rom  Skarntyde  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  Nordic  influenced  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Midt  i  ruinene".  8  out  of  10.

Skarntyde/Flukt fra menneskeligheten/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Skarntyde  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  old  school  form  of  Nordic  influenced  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  album  "Flukt  fra  menneskeligheten".

  Melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  start  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album  along  with  the  tracks  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  Norwegian  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  At  times  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  semi  clean  yet  still  grim  style  as  well  as  one  of  the  songs  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  album  and  a  later  track  is  also  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  a  protagonist  who  turns  his  back  on  society  and  his  wish  for  the  end  of  mankind.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Skarntyde  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ting  som  jeg  er  så  lei  av"  "Fjellene  ligger  foran  meg"  and  "Drøm  av menneskehetens  ende".  8  out  of  10.

Skarntyde/Spurvehauk/2019 Demo Review

  Skarntyde  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  unpolished  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  demo  "Spurvehauk".

  A  very  dark  sound  starts  off  the  demo  which  also  introduces  melodic  guitar  leads  onto  the  recording.  When t he  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  emtal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Norwegian  style.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  classical  style  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  a  few  tracks  and  as  the  demo  progresses  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  and  a  small  amount  of  clean  vocals  are  also  added  onto  the  closing  track.

  Skarntyde  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  unpolished  in  the  90's  second  wave  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  hunting  behaviour  of  the  sparrow  hawk  in  5  chapters.

  In  my  opinion  Skarntyde  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  unpolished  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fokus"  and  "Fred".  8 out  of  10.
