Mortuus/Diablerie/W.T.C Productions/2022 Full Length Review

Mortuus  are  a  duo  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Diablere"  which  was  released  by  W.T.C  Productions.

Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

All  of  the  tracks  on  the  album  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  at  times  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  the  classic  Swedish  era  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clear  vocals  as  well a s  the  closing  song  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  ritualistic  soundscapes.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Left  Hand  Path,  Qlipthoth,  Draconian  Rituals  and  Black  Magick  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mortuus  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Threefold  harrowing  Of  Hell"  and  "Furnance  of  Sleep".  8/5  out  of  10.

Mortuus/De Contemplanda Morte/Ajna Offensive/2007 CD Review

Mortuus are a band from Sweden that plays a very Occultic form of Left Hand Path Black Metal and this is a review of their 2007 album "De Contemplanda Morte" which was released by Ajna Offensive.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some occasional blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with dark riffing that dominates throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very dark sounding while the lead guitars are very dark and melodic sounding black metal guitar leads that do not turn into guitar solos, as for the synths when they are utilized they bring a very dark funeral like occultic/avant garde feel to the music.

Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams with a spoken word ritualistic passage being used on one song as well as a brief use of clean singing vocals, while the lyrics cover Death Worship, Darkness, Occultism and the dark side of the Caballa, as fro the production it has a very heavy and powerful sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion Mortuus are a very good occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Penetrations Of Darkness" and "The Constant Descent Of Seraphim". RECOMMENDED BUY.
