1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
Some time passed since the recording process of „Realm Of Ashes“ back in 2020. We have to admit that there wasn’t much activity concerning the usual band activities until summer 2022. Each band member was entangled in personal topics related to family, work and other „daily business“.
2.You have a new album coming out towards the end of October, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The new album isn’t fundamental different to our older albums, it is more another step in the evolution of our music. The tracks of „Realm Of Ashes“ are a little bit more focused and the different aspects of our sound harmonize better together. We took our time to work on the new songs and dedicated them our full attention.
3.This is also your first release in 6 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during this time frame?
Well, we never belonged to the fastest bands when it comes to album releases. This is also owed to our process of creating new material. There was also much movement in each band members personal life what made regular rehearsals very difficult sometimes. Beside this we did some great gigs here in Germany and collected new ideas and inspirations for “Realm Of Ashes”.
4.The band formed out of the ashes of 'Twilight Prophecies', what was the cause of the break up of your previous band and also the decision to form a new one?
From long ago, we can cut that down to the infamous personal and musical differences. The time was right to start a new chapter within the Black Metal genre.
5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer release and also how would you describe your progress as songwriters over the years?
“Realm Of Ashes” tries to take a new look upon the major topic of death itself. Each song has a different approach to death offside the obvious.
Since the beginning, each Timor Et Tremor band member is involved in the songwriting process. This method of creating new songs benefits from each band members own progress and experience. So after all the combination of our individual styles and inspirations helped “Realm Of Ashes” to be the most consistent Timor Et Tremor album.
6.A lot of your earlier lyrics also covered Paganism themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?
Since “For Cold Shades” the Paganism theme made a step into the background. During the last years our point of view changed to be more abstract. Actually we often use metaphors to provide an insight into Timor Et Tremors mind.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The artwork was done by ourselves at a cold and damp location in our region. We tried to accompany the lyrical concept of “Realm Of Ashes” and aligned the elements to support its atmosphere. Every detail that can be discovered in the artworks has it’s own story. That’s an important point for Timor Et Tremor: a personal connection to our creation.
8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Unluckily Timor Et Tremor isn’t present on stage on a regular basis. But we had the best shows at the famous clubs “From Hell” in Erfurt and “Turock” in Essen. It was memorable to share the stage with Firtan, Ellende, Obscurity and more.
Our stage performance could somehow described as concentrated. In the live environment we try to feel into every song and let the audience be part of this journey.
9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
At the moment Timor Et Tremor is unable to realize an acceptable live performance, especially for the songs of “Realm Of Ashes”. Our bass singer Florian (known of Burden Of Grief and Atomwinter) sadly had to leave Timor Et Tremor, therefore a huge part is missing on stage. So until further notice there will be no gigs with Timor Et Tremor.
10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of black metal?
We don’t think Timor Et Tremor deserves the description “known worldwide”. Beside some exceptions we mainly get feedback from Germany. Maybe “Realm Of Ashes” expands our small circle of fans a little bit more. Judging by what we heard so far fans of Timor Et Tremors older albums still like what we are doing.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Typically we don’t set any marks or goals for us during gathering new ideas. One thing is for sure: Anything written by Timor Et Tremor will be identified as such!
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?
We actually don’t have any real boundaries in our personal tastes. You can find newer releases of the (Black) Metal scene as well as old-school classics we are grown up with. As the years passing by a lot of bands and genres left their mark on us.
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
