  Sans  Roi  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  an  occult  mixture  of  black  and  dark  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Ecrits  Corsaires"  which  will  be  released  on  September  25th  by  Chapitire  XIII.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  spoken  words  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  orchestration  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording  at  times. Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Elements  of  dark  and  gothic  metal  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length.  Electronic  music  sounds  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  song  also  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  symphonic  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in a  mixture  of  French  and  English  and  cover  the  writings  of  Carlos  Castaneda,  Gnosticism  and  Philosophical  themes.     

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sans  Roi  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  and  dark  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  The  Volcano"  "A  Yaqui  Way  Of  Knowledge"  and  "The  Dance  Of  Reality".  8  out  of  10.

Misery Spell/Wormhole/Naturmacht Productions/2026 Full Length Review

  Misery  Spell  are  a  musical  project  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Wormhole"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  recording  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard. 

  Melodies  are  also  added  into a   lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  tremolo  picking  in t he  fast  riffing  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  synths  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  closing  song  is  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Misery  Spell  goes  for  a  very  atmospheric  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  a  feeling  that  haunts  throughout  life  and  and  slowly  eats  all  life  away  from  the  inside.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Misery  Spell  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  The  Pale  Light  Of  The  Stars"  and  "Bitter  Dream".  8  out  of  10.

Frostland/Im Zentrum der Leere/Höstljus Records/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Frostland  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  raw,  atmospheric  and  dissonant  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2026  album  "Im  Zentrum  der  Leere"  which will  be  released  on  October  30th  by  Höstljus  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  growls  while  the  album  also  adds  in a   good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  dissonant  sounding  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  and  most  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  synths  and  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  the  cosmos,  in  all  madness  and  depth  with  some  inspirations  from  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  Frostland  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  atmospheric  and  dissonant  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mare  Imbrium"  and  "Unter  dem  Meer  der  Faulnis".  8  out  of  10.

Waylander/Mac Tire - Son Of The Land/Rockshot Records/2026 Full Length Review

  Waylander  are  a  band  from  Northern  Ireland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  folk  influenced  form  of  Celtic  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Mac  Tire  -  Son  Of  The  Land"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Rockshot  Records.

  Folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  harsh  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars.

  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album.  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.    When  guitar   solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  most  of  the  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  as  well  as  some  clear  singing  also  being  used  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Waylander  focuses  more  on  a  folk  influenced  and  mid  tempo  style  of  pagan  black  metal.  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Celtic  Paganism  and  Mythology  themes.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  form  Waylander  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  influenced  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Macha"  "Our  Once  Wooded  Isle"  and  "She  Of  The  Sorrows".  8  out  of  10.

  Germany's  Servant  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  aggressive  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Lux  Ex  Inferis"  which  will b e  released  in  October  by  AOP  Records.

  Synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  an  angry  black  metal  style  while  the  album  also  brings  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  of  the  genre  with  some  old  school  aggression  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing,  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  spoken  words  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.   

  On  this  recording  Servant  brings  out  a  very  modern,  melodic,  aggressive  and  traditional  form  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occult,  mythological.  philosophical  and  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Servant  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  aggressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tabula  Rasa"  "De  Profundis"  and  "Hypnos  I  See  You".  8  out  of  10.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  elements  of  shoegaze  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  of  the  genre,  clear  singing  is  also  added  towards  the  end.

  Italy's  solo  project  Marea  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2026  album  "A  Caress  Of  Autumn  For  All  The  Lost"  which  will  be  released  in  October  as  a  joint  effort  between  Hypnotic  Dirge  and  Masked  Dead  Records.  

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  Spere  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on this  recording  goes  for  a  psychedelic  maritime  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2026  album  "Blotters  In  Saline  Waters"  which  will  be  released  in  October.

  Synths  which  also  adds  in  some  psychedelic  touches  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  during  the  faster  parts  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  most  of  the  album  focuses  more  on  a  slower  or  mid  tempo  direction.  A  lot  of the  music  focuses  more  on  a  modern  style  of  the  genre  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Mindvile Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

The album was recorded at Moontower Studio in July of last year; it’s been over a year since the recording, and the album still hasn’t been released.

It took us a long time to find a sound that truly satisfied us. I have to say that Javi was very patient with us and helped us a lot, since at first we weren’t entirely convinced by the sound, and it took us a long time to achieve the perfect sound we could be proud of.

We then began distributing the material and received several offers from different record labels; ultimately, we decided to sign with Satanath and Paragon, as we felt they were the best options and they appreciated our music. After discussing it with them, we decided—for scheduling reasons—to release the album on September 25.

During this time, we’ve continued composing and preparing material for the next album, but between our day jobs and promoting the album, we don’t have much time left.

2.You have an album coming out in September, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

I assume you’re referring to the sound. Mindvile’s sound is a mix between classic black metal and a more contemporary sound. We didn’t want a sound that was too much in the vein of Darkthrone, but rather one more similar to Mayhem or Emperor; though with a more modern twist.

We think we’ve achieved an aggressive and powerful sound, but at the same time it has a dark edge, like the older bands used to have.

3.Most of your lyrics focus on real themes, can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical content you explore on the newer release?

This first album focuses on Europe, delving into the most terrifying cases on this continent. All the cases involve people who are still alive today; whether they’re locked up or free, walking the same streets we walk on every day.

4.There is going to be a 5 album concept with the releases. what are some of the other lyrical topics you plan to explore on future releases?

The entire conceptual arc surrounding the upcoming albums is based on the most twisted and dangerous minds that are still alive today, so the lyrics explore different individuals who have committed the most atrocious and creepiest crimes across all five continents.

We believe that pure horror doesn’t come from imagination or fantasy, but rather resides within us, as humans.

There’s a popular saying that goes, “Reality always surpasses fiction,” and we think it’s very accurate.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The cover depicts the Hill of Crosses, a place as mysterious as it is unsettling, located in Lithuania, about 12 kilometers from the city of Šiauliai.

We were looking for a real, sinister place in Europe that could represent the album’s concept, since OLD CONTINENT is about some of the cruelest and most depraved people in this continent’s recent history.

The album consists of 8 songs, which is why we decided to feature 8 figures on the cover, each forming part of this unsettling scene. We used the staircase to symbolize a struggle to claim the title of the continent’s most heinous crime.

We reached out to Juanjo Castellano because we were familiar with some of his previous work and thought it was fantastic. From the very beginning, he was very attentive and eager to take on the project, and the result was a true work of art; we loved it the moment we saw it.

6.The band members live in both Spain and United States, what impact does this have on the musical style with the long distance between members?

We like the same or similar types of music, so we don’t have a problem. When we started writing songs, we focused on a specific style. We can make concessions, introduce variations, or evolve, but Mindvile sets the tone, so we focus on doing what we like and what the band needs.

With today's technology, distance isn't an issue when it comes to composing and creating. We might face more challenges with scheduling when we want to meet up, though, since there is an eight-hour time difference.

7.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

In the future, we’d like to perform the album live, and perhaps expand the band or look for people who’d like to collaborate with us, since performing the album live requires two guitars, a bass, and drums; almost all the riffs in our songs are written for two guitars.

8.The album is going to be released through both Paragon and Satanath Records, are you happy with the support both labels have given you so far?

We’re more than happy, to be honest. Both Mike and Aleksey are really nice and awesome guys; they’ve helped us a lot with everything, have always been very honest, and have given us all the help they can.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

So far, very well; the music has been well received.

People who have listened to the songs that have been released have had great things to say about them and have shown a lot of enthusiasm for hearing the rest of the album.

10.What can we exppect musically during the future?

To be honest, we hope for more of the same as we’ve done so far. We see our music as raw and high-quality, aimed at conveying terror and suffering. We’re not thinking about major changes, but simply an evolution; without straying from the Mindvile style.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

We don’t just listen to black metal; we don’t pretend to be more true than anyone else. We like all kinds of heavy metal, but we lean more toward extreme music like Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, and Marduk… We also like bands like King Diamond, Metallica, and Blind Guardian...

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Just to say that Old Continent, this first album, is just the beginning, so people better get ready to suffer and enjoy Mindvile throughout our conceptual arc of “Stories No Tongue Should Tell”.

Funeral/Self Titled/Caligari Records/Black Legion Records/2025 EP Review

  Funeral  are  a  band  from  Peru  that  plays  a  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  metal,  hardcore,  punk  and  deathrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2026  ep  which  will  be  released  on  September  25th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Caligari  and  Black  legion  Records.

  A  very  powerful  bass  guitar  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of a  punk  and  deathrock  influenced  style.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Elements  of  hardcore  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Shouts  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  ep  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody,  clean  playing  is  also  added  towards  the  end.

  Funeral  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  emtal,  punk,  hardcore  and  deathrock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Spanish  and  cover  rage,  misery  and  inevitable  decay.

  In  my  opinion  Funeral  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  metal,  punk,  hardcore  and  deathrock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Averno"  and  "El  Enteirro".  8  out  of  10.

Paara/Laulut tulen ja jään/Dusktone/2026 Full Length Review

 

  Paara  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  ritualistic  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Laulut  tulen  ja  jään"  which  will  be  released  in  october  by  Dusktone.

  A very  dark  and  nature  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  brief  use  of  clean  chants  which  also  mix  in  some  ritualistic  style  whispers  mixed in  with  some  acoustic  guitars  and  percussion  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Clear  singing  is  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  album  also  adding  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words,  angry  shouts  and  keyboards  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  folk  music  touches  and  a  few  songs  also  add  in  female  vocals.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  Northern  nature  and  the  distant  past.  

  In  my  opinion  Paara  are  a  very  great  sounding  folk  influenced  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kirveenkantaja"  and  "Pohjolan".  8  out  of  10.

Enterré Vivant/Kurogoku/Transcendence/2026 Full Length Review

 

   Enterré  Vivant  are  an  international  duo  with  members  from  France  and  Japan  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  the  recording  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2026  album  "Kurogoku"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Transcendence.

  Raw  tremolo  picking  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  synths  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Female  vocals  are  also  used  in  certain  sections  of  the  album  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  Asian  style  folk  instruments,  some  of  the  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words and  chants.  

  On  this  recording  Enterré  Vivant  continue  to  expand  on  the  modern  and  atmospheric  style  of   black  metal  that  they  have  introduced  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Japanese  and  cover  the  six  realms  of  reincarnation  from  Buddhist  teachings. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Enterré Vivant  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ningendô"  and  "Shuradô".  8  out  of  10.

Dantalion/Self Titled/Base Record Production/2026 Full Length Review

  Spain's  Dantalion  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric  and  melancholic  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2026  album  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Base  Record  Promotion.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast beats.  Vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  some  clear  singing  which  also  has  a  rough  edge  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  lot  of   atmospheric  touches.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  ports.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Dantalion  brings  out  a  very  modern,  melancholic,  melodic,  aggressive  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  human  decay,  emotional  emptiness  and  evil  as  n  inherit  part  of  human  nature.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dantalion  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  melancholic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Born  Of  My  Own  Damnation"  "The  Temple  of  Internal  Ruin"  and  "The  Inner  Void".  8  out  of  10.
