Third Storm/The Locust Mantra/Chaos Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Sweden's  Third  Storm  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "The  Locust  Mantra"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Chaos  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a decent  amount  of  melody.  

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  death  metal  elements.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  slower  sections  of  the  recording  also  adding  in  influences  of  doom  metal,  a  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  Swedish  style,  acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs. 

  On  this  recording  Third  Storm  goes  for  more  of  a  melodic  and  old  school  style  of  black  emtal  as  well  as  adding  in  some  touches  of  doom  and  death  metal  which  makes  the  songs  stand  out  a  lot  more.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophy.  duality  and  cosmology  themes.

  In  my  opinion t his  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Third  Storm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Clandestine  Gospel"  "World  Infernal"  "Alter  Omega"  and  "Dawn  of  The  Fearmongers".  8 out  of  10.

Third Storm/The Grand Manifestation/Dark Descent Records/2018 CD Review

  Third  Storm  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "The  Grand  Manifestation"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  having  their  melodic  moments  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken word  parts  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  death  and  thrash  metal  influences  at  times.  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  synth  instrumental  is  added  onto  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction  on  the  following  tracks  and  classical  guitars  are  also  used  briefly.

  On this  recording  Third  Storm  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  black  metal  while  the  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal  elements  makes  the  songs  stand  out  a  lot  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  existential  and  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Third  Storm  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  doom,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As The  Stars  Watched  The  Birth  Of"  "Through  Eyes  Of  The  Omnipresent"  and  "In  Wrath  Enshrouded".  8  out  of  10.

Third Storm/Taritiya Me/Dark Descent Records/2015 EP Review

  Third  Storm  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  a  history  dating  back  to  the  80's  and  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  ep  "Taritya  Me"  which  was  released  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  Air  raid  sirens  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  after  a  minute  the  music  gets  heavy  with  doom  metal  riffing  and  high  pitched  black  metla  screams  and w hen t he  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  and  a  great  amount  of  80's  South  American  influences  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Elements  of  death  metal  along  with  some  morbid  sounding  melodies  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  solos  and  leads  remain  true  to  a  very  dark  and extreme  style  of  metal  while  also  being  melodic  at  times and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  along  with  both  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  brings  in  Gregorian  chants  briefly  which  also  makes  the  music  sound  more  ritualistic  as well  as  bringing  in  death  metal  growls  at  times  and  the  second  track  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  synths.

  Third  Storm  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  early  90's  doom  and  a  touch  of  80's  extreme  metal  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  Philosophy,  Duality,  Creation  Of  Universe,  Hell  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Third  Storm  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Oath-Nava-Agir".  8  out  of  10.
