Theosophy/Bleeding Wounds Of The First And The Last/Epictural Productions/2023 Full Length Review

Russia's  Theosophy  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Bleeding  Wounds  Of  The  First  And  The  Last"  which  was  released  by  Epictural  Productions.

A  very  fast  and r aw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

When  keyboards  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  and  all  of the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  the  tracks  also  add  in  influences  from  both  the  old  school  and  modern  era's  of  the  genre.

On  5this  recording  Theosophy  takes  their  music  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  melodic  direction  of  black  metal,  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Siberian  Mysticism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Theosophy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Majesty  Of  The  Two  Rivers"  and  "Over  the  Empty  Valleys".  8 out  of  10.

Theosophy Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Hi! At the moment we prepare about 20 songs for our nearest live shows and start to think about new recordings. Also we wait our first compilation CD which must be released in Indonesia.
Many ideas, many plans...

2. In December you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
New album is a part of a big work, which named as “Eastland Tales”. I think that two latest releases has same sound, concept and stylistic. All of “Eastland Tales” has more pagan tone  and melodism. The musical canvas is very diverse, because we have a place on two CD’s for all our ideas.

3. The band was formed in 2004 but waited until 2008 to release any music, can you tell us a little bit more about the first 4 years?
I played with Egiborg in some local band during this time. The second reason was a lack of qualified musicians… But my patience and enthusiasm to play in band over time came to an end.
At the turn of 2007-2008, we decided to record some songs. THEOSOPHY had only three members in line-up (Phantom, Egiborg and XI). We didn’t want to use drum machine and invited Adv (our first drummer) as a session guest for our demo.
After the recording we had first offers for release (split with Bizarrekult) and several gigs… and THEOSOPHY started for a long way…

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
For example, “Call of Ugra” from the first part has a historical thematic about start conquest of Siberia. “From the Sky Down” – about falling the man from his birth during his life. “A Sudden Tragedy” – only my own history. From second part, “Route to Light (321)” – text was written after air crush of the russian aircraft in Egypt. Album has traditional themes for us – North, Death and mankind falling.

5. I know that the name 'Theosophy' comes from an occult system that mixes both eastern and western traditions together, do the band members have any interest in Occultism?
Occultism? I think, no. But we honor Cult of the North, Death and Darkness.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
All gigs during 2008-2009 were great! I can’t to choose one or two shows. We played in our hometown Barnaul and nearest cities with a massive and fucking crazy auditory! It was fantastic!
Of course we want more gigs and geography for our shows.

7. Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We're planning mini-tour for the West Siberia.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
We want to say mighty thanks for all our listeners! From Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa!
We have many great words from worldwide. I have a shock after the message from Egypt. Black Metal Art has penetrated into all!

9. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We will do our work and our future will determine by listener.

10. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I think, that we started our music way with some flagships of russian metal scene. But our music has influence from first and second wave of Norwegian Black Metal scene. I’m interested with only old metal bands activity at the moment, because we do own history.

11. What are some of your non musical interests?
I and Egiborg likes a traveling to new interesting places. XI do many crazy things for theater and cinema. Skinner go on hikes in the mountains. Svåarth has a Master's degree in physics.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Stay pure and don't wait the Death!

Theosophy/Eastland Tales- Part II/No Colours Records/2016 CD Review

Theosophy  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Eastland  Tales-  Part  II"  which  was  released  by  No  Colours  Records.

Drums  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  thrash  influenced  guitar  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  black  metal  screams  are  added  onto t he  recording  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

When  keyboards  are  utilized  they  bring  in  more  of  a  90's  atmospheric  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style  and  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  more  raw  black  metal  style  at  times and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

Spoken  word  parts  along  with  clean  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  while  the  music  has  a  lot  of  roots  in  the  90's  it  still  sounds very  modern  and  the  riffing  also  brings  in a  great  amount  of  cold  sounding  melodies  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  and  the  last  track  is  all  instrumental.

Theosophy  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  more  influenced  by  the  raw  yet  cold,  atmospheric  and  melodic  side  of  the  second  wave  era  while  also  updating  this  approach  in  the  modern  times,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  north,  nature,  fear  and  social  themes.

In  my  opinion  Theosophy  are  a  very  great  sounding  cold  and  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Slaves Of  Destiny"  "My  Hatred  In  My  Hands"  "Up  To  The  Mountains"  and  "Route  to  Light(#21)".  8/5  out  of  10.
