Malakhim/And In Our Hearts The Devil Sings/Iron Bonehead Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Sweden's  Malakhim  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "And  in  Our  Heart  The  Devil  Sings"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Ritualistic  sounding  bells  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  more  heavy  and  melodic  direction  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  era  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  tracks  as  well  as  one  song  also  introducing  spoken  words  onto  the  album  and  the  vocals  also  have  their  grim  moments  and synths  are  also   added  on  the  closing  track..  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Devil  Worship  and  the  ideas  of  the  Yetzer  Hara.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malakhim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast  and  aggressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "And  In  Our  Heart  The  Devil  Songs"  "Into  Darkness  We  Depart"  and  "The  Firmament  Submits".  8 out  of  10.

Malakhim/Theion/Iron Bonehead Productions/2021 CD Review

 

  Sweden's  Malakhim  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  melodic  black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Theion"  which  will  be  released  in  2021  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Distorted  amp  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  touches  of  death  metal  and  towards  the  end  a  brief  use  of  synths  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard

  On  this  recording  Malakhim  goes  for  more  of  a  raw,  aggressive,  melodic  and  traditional style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malakhim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "There  Is  A  Beacon"  "Hammer  Of  Satan"  and  "Theion".  8  out  of  10.

Malakhim/II/Iron Bonehead Productions/2019 EP Review

  Malakhim  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  orthodox  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  ep  "II"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  capturing  the  same  atmosphere  of  the  riffing.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  evil  sounding  melodies  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  Swedish  style  of  black  metal.  The  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  tremolo  picking  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  A  touch  of  death  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  brings  in  more  of  a  modern  approach  to  the  black  metal genre  while  also  keeping  the  songs  in  a  heavier  musical  direction  also  showing  a  good  amount  of  progress  from  the  previous  recording  as  well  as  remaining  true  to  the  style  they  established  on  the  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Malakhim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  orthodox  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  the  Rays  of  A  New  Sun"  and  "Sworn  To Satan's  Fire".  8  out  of  10.

Malakhim/Demo I/Iron Bonehead Productions/2017 Demo Re-Issue Review

  Malakhim  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  plays  an  orthodox  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  demo  which  was  re-issued  on  12  inch  mlp,  and  mcd  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Tremolo  picking  and  melodic  riffing  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  the  music  speeding  up  and  adding  in  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  vocals  also  mixing  in  a  grim  yet  semi  melodic  tone  at  times  and  you  can  also h ear  some  elements  of  death  metal  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  as  the  demo  progresses  a  more  modern  style  of  orthodox  black  metal  can  be  heard.

  Malakhim  plays  a  style  of  orthodox  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  dark  and  traditional  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  powers  of  The  Beyond.

  In  my  opinion  Malakhim  are  a  very  great  sounding  orthodox  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Mass  Of  Flesh". 8  out  of  10.
