Infernal Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Hi. A lot of things is going on with the band these days.. We are finally releasing our collection album «Eternal Disharmony» on Hellstain production these days ,and we have just  recorded the next album ,also for Hellstain,..and we are already working on the third album.  We are also prepering to play some live shows in the future, so it’s pretty busy days

2.The band has been back together since 2019, musically hoe does the newer stuff differ from your earlier material?

well, hard to say. We have changed the line up, we have been older, wiser and better musicians  I

think. The main difference should be the studio technic wich have changed a lot over the years. «Eternal Disharmony» was recorded in analog studios,  but we use digital studios today.

3.The band was broken up for 18 years, what was the cause of the split and also the decision to reform?

Disagreement and a lack of intress. Everyone went to their oun prosjekts… After the split-up  with the band Drephjard wich I and zyrn was playing in  for several years, Zyrn was asking me to recreate Infernal in 2019.

4.A lot of your lyrics cover Satanism and Occultism themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

Well, Speak for myself, I have been into dark arts, death,  mysticism and occultism since childshood.  The other members also deal with the antichristian thoughts …

5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years with your music?

Well, Speak for myself, I have been into dark arts, death,  mysticism and occultism since childshood.  The other members also deal with the antichristian thoughts …

6.Originally the band was called 'Ballberith' what was the cause of the name change and the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Infernal"?

Oh well, Baalberith was basic oneman Project With session members. In the end of 1996 Baalberith had become  more a band with a line up  than a prosject , so we change the name in january 1997 and became a propher band.  When we choose the name Infernal, There where no other infernal And you know, back in 97 there was not the internett like today so it was’nt easy to check it up. But i Wonder why in Hell New bands take the name before they search the internet. But we are the true infernal anyway haha

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the compilation cover?

Yes, the fontcover drawing is done by Per Andre Nielsen …  Every Infernal releases have some sort of skulls on the front… so far…

8.What where some of the best shows that the band has played in the past and also how would you describe your stage performance?

None… Infernal have never played live. But we are preparing to play live in the future. Every members have played a lot of live With other prosjects so we are pretty familiar With the stage.

9.Has there been any shows or tours planned since the reunion?

No not yet. As I said, we are preparing to play live. So watch out for a Infernal gig in the future. People who want to see us live should take contakt with the band or our label Hellstain for booking

11.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

So far so good.» Eternal Disharmony» is still very hot, so there have not been that much feedback yet.

11.When can we expect new music?

Very soon. As I said earlier, we have recorded the second album wich will be released later this year or next year at Hellstain Production. And we will enter the studio again in the end of the year to record our third album. Most of the music is already written. We also have a new song out on youtube called «blasphemic Rites». Check it out

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

we all lising to a lot of different music. Everything form black/ambient to rock and prog… we try to use elements from diffrent styles into infernal. We don’t want to sound like a spesific band.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Hmmm i don’t think so. Thanx for the interview. We needed that…  Ave Infernalis…

Infernal/Eternal Disharmony/Hellstain Productions/2023 Compilation Album Review

Infernal  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  an  old  school  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  compilation  album  "Eternal  Disharmony"  which  will  be  released  on  May  19th  by  Hellstain  Productions.

A  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  compilation  and  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

Synths  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  Swedish  influences  and  they  also  bring  in  an  instrumental.

Infernal  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  melodic  and  aggressive  in  the  mid  90's  Nordic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Christianity,  Death,  Darkness  and  Misanthropy  themes.

In  my  opinion  Infernal  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bloody  Upon  The  Altar"  "The  Last  Eternal  Winter"  "To  Die  Is  A  Pleasure"  and  "Goathelia".  8  out  of  10.
