This is a review of a split album between Sri Lanka's Konflict and Japan's Reek Of The Unzen Gas Fumes called "Conflict Is Control/Poisonous Gas Thrower Of Jigoku" which was released in 2015 by Cyclopean Eye Productions and we will start off the review with Konflict a band that plays a raw mixture of black, death metal, grindcore and harsh power electronics.
Their side of the split starts out with harsh noises and power electronics and you can also hear voices in the background at times and on the second track the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction that also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats along with some guttural growls that gives the music a bestial/death and war metal feeling while also having a touch of grindcore to them.
They also mix the harsh noises in with the heavier parts and some of the tracks also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and also mix in a great amount of death metal influences and the drum beats are programmed while being more brutal than an actual drum kit and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover violence, war and hateful themes.
In my opinion Konflict are a very great sounding mixture of war, black, death metal, grindcore and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Conflict Is Control" and "In Strife, With You (Aryaputhru Yatapatha)".
Next up is Reek Of the Unzen Gas Fumes a band that plays a very raw mixture of black metal and grindcore.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast, heavy and melodic sound that also uses a great amount of blast beats and after a few seconds high pitched black metal screams make their presence known on their side of the recording and you can also hear a touch of death metal and grindcore in the bands musical style.
The songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some songs also bring in a small amount of technical elements and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on their side of the recording and as their side of the split progresses distorted spoken word parts and a touch of noise can be heard in some parts of the songs and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they done in more of a melodic fashion and spoken word samples can also be heard briefly, the production has a very raw yet heavy sound while the lyrics cover radical Japenese nationalism, anti Buddhism and Sadism themes.
In my opinion Reek Of The Unzen Gas Fumes are a very great sounding raw and melodic mixture of war, black metal and grindcore with a touch of noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Doku" and "Reek Of the Unzen Gas Fumes". 8 u8t of 10.
