Oerheks/Valkengebed/Amor Fati Productions/Babylon Doom Cult/2023 Demo Review

 

  Netherlands's  solo  project  Oerheks  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  old  school  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  demo  "Valkengebed"  which  will  be  released  in  October  as  a  joint  effort  between  Amor  Fati  Productions  and  Babylon  Doom  Cult  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  demo  while  both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  while  the  faster   sections  of  the recording  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  adds  in  more  of  a  raw  touch.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era,,  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  the  second  track.

  On  this  recording  Oerheks  brings  in  more  of  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  synth  orientated  and  atmospheric  in  the  mid  90's  tradition..  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Flemish  and  cover  nature,  birds  and  folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Oerheks  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Blauwe  Vleugels".  8 out  of  10.

Oerheks/Landschapsanachronismen/Amor Fati Productions/2023 EP Review

 

  Oerheks  are  a  solo  project  from  Belgium  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  old  school   form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  ep  "Landschapsanachronismen"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Amor  Fati  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads.  Both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  pic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  tortured  sounding  black  metal  screams  that  are  mixed  down  very  low  in  the  mix  and  synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.

  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  era  influences.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  being  used  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast b eats  can b e  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  utilized  briefly  on  both  tracks  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  spoken  words  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Belgian  and  cover  Paganism,  Darkness  and  Melancholy  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Oerheks  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  epic,  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Een  Eenzaat  in  het  Landschap".  8  out  of  10.

  Oerheks  are  a  solo  project  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  very  mid  tempo  and  synth  orientated  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Cagghenvinna"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Amor  Fati  Productions. 

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  epic  sounding  synths  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Oerheks  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  is  very  mid  tempo  and  synth  orientated.   The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Flemish  and  cover  ancient  times,  myths  and  lore.

  In  my  opinion  Oerheks  are  a  very  great  sounding   mid  tempo  and  synth  orientated  black  metal  solos  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Door  Doomen  Overtogen"  and  "Stilte,  Deel  een:  Een  Storm  der  Tijd".  8  out  of  10.
