Mavorim/In Ominia Paratus/Purity Through Fire/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  duo  Mavorim  has  returned  with a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  stark  and  austere  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Ominia  Paratus"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Militant  style  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  recording  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clear  vocals  onto  the  album,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very   professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Paranormal  Activities,  Death  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mavorim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  atmospheric  and  ambient  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Als  der  Menscheit  Willr  brach"  "Stahleme  Reihn"  "Traume'  and  "Der  letzten  Sonne  Untergang".  8  out  of  10.

Mavorim/Ab Amitia Pulsae/Purity Through Fire/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  duo  Mavorim  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  stark  and  austere  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Ab  Amitia  Pulsae"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Dark  sounding  keyboards  and  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  album  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  and  modern  influences.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length,  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  death,  hate,  murder  and  paranormal  activities.

Mavorim/Non Omnis Moriar/Purity Through Fire/2021 CD Review

 

  Germany's  solo  project  Mavorim  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  stark  and  austere  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2021  album  "Non  Omnis  Moriar"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Purity  Through  Fire.  

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  the  synths  also  bring  in  elements  of  ambient  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

Mavorim/Ad Mortem/Iudicium Ultimum/Purity Through Fire/2020 Split CD Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Germany's  Mavorim  and  Ad  Mortem  called  "Iudicium  Ultimum"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween  by  Purity  Through  Fire  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Mavorim  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  nature  sounds  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  beats.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  along  with  the  second  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.

  Most  of  his  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mavorim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tod  und  Teufel"  and  "Dem  Tod  zu  Ehren".

  Next  up  is  Ad  Mortem  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  misanthropic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  soundscapes  and  synths  while  Gregorian  chants  can  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  most  of  their  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  You  can  also  hear  a  lot  of  90's  influences  in  the  music  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  once  they  are utilized.

  They  also  team  up  with  Mavorim  on  one  of  the  songs  and  they  close  their  side  of  the  split  with  an  ambient  style  outro  which  also  shows  the  synths  also  making  a  brief  return.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  death  and  misanthropy  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  Ad  Mortem  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  misanthropic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dem  Tod  zu  Ehren"  and  "Kerker(Exitium  II)".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  misanthropic  and  atmospheric  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  Ambient  orientated  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  while  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.   When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  A  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  ambient  style  instrumentals  as  well as  a  later  track  also  adding  in  some  session  vocals  from  Revenant  of  Sarkrista  and  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Minenwerfer's  "Kaiserjagerlied".  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  death,  murder,  paranormal  activities,  hate,  paganism and  Germanic  folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mavorim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aus  Asche  auferstanden"  "Die  letzie  Festung"  "Axis  Mundi"  and  "Wie  ein  Sturm".  8  out  of  10.

Mavorim/Aasfresser/Purity Through Fire/2019 Double EP Review

  Mavorim  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  stark  and  austere form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  double  ep  "Aasfressor"  which  consists  of  6  brand  new  tracks  and  4  unreleased  demo  songs  and  will  be  released  on  August  18th,  2019  by  Purity  through  Fire.

  A  very  epic  and  ambient  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  synths  onto  the  recording  which  also  returns  on  some  of  the  later  tracks.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black metal  screams  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  utilizing  depressive  and  epic  sounding  melodies.

Mavorim Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
P.: Mavorim is a one Man Black Metal Band from Germany which was founded in the Year of 2014.

2.Recently you have released your first full length, musically how does it differ from your previous split's, demo and ep?
P.:  I think the first two releases were a bit more orthodox in terms of Black Metal. More mysterious and raw. The last three releases are much more aggressive, thoughtful and more like a punch in the face.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with your music?
P.: My lyrics often deal with violence, hate, madness, longing for past times, war, my ancestors, my homeland and the war against the modern world.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Mavorim'?
P.: That's a little secret i keep to myself.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
P.: The artwork consists of pictures of a very old castle in my hometown which is a very magical place full of history. The image of the owl on the back of the jewel case version and the Tape version was drawn by a very good friend exclusively for Mavorim.

6.On the albums you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?
P.: Of course, it's easier to work alone, but I´d love working with other musicians. If the chemistry is right, it would be no problem.

7.You have also been a part of a couple of splits, can you tell us a little bit more about the bands or musical projects you have shared these recordings with?
P.: The first Split  "Memento Mori" was made with Meuchelmord. When i moved to Hannover Cernunnos and i became very good friends and so it was natural for us to do a Split in the future. Meuchelmord is a very great Band specially after the release of "Niedersachsen Schwarzmetall" wich became one of my highlights in 2018. Same with Totenwache. I got in contact with Res Bellicae before  Totenwache and Mavorim even existed and we also became very good Friends. The First day we talked about our plans to start a Project it was clear, that we would do a Split some day. All in all, Totenwache and Meuchelmord are two really great projects, which I respect humanely as well as musically! Total support!

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
P.: I got many messages from all over the world. To my surprise the reactions are positive all the way and I am very grateful for that!

9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician in the future?
P.: Well, I continue to write/record music and I will also try to play live with Mavorim in the future.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
P.: There where a lot of Bands that had an influence on my music such as Burzum, Leichenzug, Absurd, Hellfucked, Luror, Moonblood and many many more. I still listen to all of them. At the Time i listen to Circle of Dawn, Stahlfront and Temnozor a lot. Besides Black Metal and Metal in general, i like Synthwave and Folk Music a lot.

1.How would you describe your views on Paganism?
P.:I think Paganism is part of Europe and real Europeans. It would be good for us to get rid of those useless desert religions, get back to our roots and become one with our ancestors beliefs again.
