Vyr Muk/Mens Devastata/2026 EP Review

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Vyr  Muk  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  fast  and  brutal mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2026  ep  "Mens  Devastata".

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffing  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feleing.

  Throughout  the  ep  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  closing  track  and  dark  soundscapes  are  also  added  on  the  outro.

  On  this  recording  Vyr  Muk  brings  out  more  of  a  blackened  death  metal  style  and  moves  away  from  the  symphonic  and  ambient  touches  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  PTSD  and  Mental  Illness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vyr  Muk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Voices  Of  The  Void".  8  out  of  10.

Vyr Muk/Chants Of The Tenebrous Depths/2025 Full length Review

 

  Ukraine's  solo  project  Vyr  Muk  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  aggressive,  symphonic  and  symphonic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2025  album  "Chants  Of  The  Tenebrous  Depths"  which  also  shows  him  collaborating  with  other  musical  arties  from  the  underground  black  metal  scene  of  his  home  country.

  Neo-classical  style  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  symphonic  and  atmospheric  touches. 

   Each  vocalist  also  brings  in  a  different  approach  to  the  black/death  metal  vocals  styles    as  well  as  a  couples  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  clear  singing  and  spoken  words,  a  later  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  flutes.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  war  in  Ukraine.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vyr  Muk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  aggressive,  atmospheric,  symphonic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDE D TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Uncontrollable  Rage"  "When  The  Sun  Went  Out"  and  "Harvest  Of  Innocence".  8  out  of  10.

Vyr Muk/1310M/Холодне Мовчання Зірок/2025 Split EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  self  released  split  ep  between  Ukraine's  Vyr  Muk  and  1310M  called  "Холодне  Мовчання  Зірок"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Vyr  Muk  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  an  atmospheric  and  symphonic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  symphonic  sound  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  elements  of  death  metal.

  Growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  as  well  as  some  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  second  track.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  the  Chernobyl  Incident.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vyr  Muk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  symphonic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Red  Plague".

  Next  up  is  1319M  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  acoustic  instruments  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a   great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  his  side  of  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  both  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  his  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments,  clean  playing  is  also  used  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  the  Chernobyl  Incident.

  

  In  my  opinion  1310M  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Hunger".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  Ukrainian  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Vyr Muk Interview

 

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the musical project since the recording and release of the new album?

Now I’m focused on writing new material for the next releases, there are few collaborations planned at this point, hope all of them will bring wonderful results. Since I have no label I also do promotion and order merch by myself.

2.Recently you have released a new full length, musically how does it differ from your previous ep's?

I write music in several genres. The main genre is black/death metal of course, but I also have some dungeon synth and ambient piano releases. In comparison with my previous black/death metal release “Shadows Falling on the Dead Cities” the new release touches more topics than previous one and overall it's a more complex work.

3.With your releases you have released some in the black/death metal genres and a couple of ep's that where all piano instrumentals, do you consider yourself a very diverse musician?

Not really, I would say, I just write the music I want to and mostly it is an interpretation of my emotions and thoughts. I started playing piano a year and a half ago, so it was just some new experience for me and I decided to record some melodies that came up to my mind.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

The main subject is war and other things that are now happening in Ukraine. If Shadows Falling on the Dead cities was fully dedicated to war, the last release is also dedicated to topics of corruption and greed, how rotten modern society is and sorrow for the died/killed.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Vyr Muk'?

These are two Ukrainian words, Vyr (Вир) – is a whirlpool and Muk (Мук)  - is torments or suffering. I think these two words very aptly describe the music that a right and topics that I touch in my songs.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new ep cover?

The album cover depicts a massive, long-dead giant whose body has become part of the mountain landscape. This creature fell in battle many years ago, and over time, people have built their town atop the very site where the fight took place. The image symbolizes how even the most violent wars eventually come to an end, and how even the mightiest of powers can be defeated. I hope that one day we, too, will overcome this giant—and that all Ukrainians will look back on this brutal war as a chapter in history, living instead in peace and prosperity.

7.Since 2023 you have released a new amount of material, do you spend a great amount of time writing and creating music?

Five or six days per week I usually practice in music and music writing as well, usually it is 4-6 hours per day, sometimes it can be 7 days in a raw and much more time per day, I don’t know is this a lot or not, I just do it when I have time and energy for this.

8.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

I have two collaborations at this moment, one is with very unordinary multi-genre project from Ukraine called Noisepareidolia and another is cover for Cradle of Filth “Summer Dying Fast” with great black metal band from Germany, called Winds of Winter. Hope there will be more collaborations this year. If we are talking about just Vyr Muk songs, I would like to interact with musicians who are more skilled than I am, especially in drumming, for improvement.  

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I looked for labels before, I got only two positive answers but in the end their contract conditions were so bad that I decided to refuse to collaborate with them and do everything by myself.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

My project is on a very underground level at this point and the audience is very small, so its hard to estimate, but the audience is getting bigger, almost every day a few new listeners come. Most of the feedback I got was positive, hope there will be more listeners in the future.

11.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

Of course, I want to connect my life with music, before it was just a hobby for me, but I will be happy if I can ever make a living from music.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The bands that mostly influenced Vyr Muk sounding and style are Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir and SepticFlesh, but in general I would say that every band that I enjoy brings something to my imagination. Now my playlist is 99% are Ukrainian metal bands, such as U kronakh, Floscule, Waidelotte, 1914, Labirintus Stellarium and many more.

  Vyrk  Muk  are  a  solo  project  from  Ukraine  that  plays  an  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  with  elements  of  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2025  album  "Crimson  Fields  Of  Sorrow".

 A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  When  synths  are  utilzied  they  also bring  in  symphonic  and  ambient  elements  which  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  The  music  also  mixes  in  modern  and  old  school  touches  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Influences  of  death  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  growls  are  also  used  at  times  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  the  closing  song  being  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  greed,  voracity,  inhumane  conditions  on  the  frontline,  how  rotten  modern  society  is,  and  sorrow  for  the  dead/killed.

  In  my  opinion  Vyrk  Muk  are  a  very  great  sounding  aggressive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  with  elements  of  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Voracity"  and  "Bitterness  of  Loss'.  8  out  of  10.
