Khold/Du dømmes til Død/Soulseller Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Norway's  Khold  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  mid  tempo  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Du  dømmes  til  Død"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Soulseller  Records.

  A  very  slow,  dark  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  Norwegian  style  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  mid  tempo  sections.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  grooves.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  introduced  into  the  music  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats,  fast  playing  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  one  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  synths  but  keeping  the  focus  on  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Khold  goes  for  more  of   a  mid  tempo  style  of  Norwegian  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  is  a  concept  album  based  upon  henchman  and  various  people  being  condemned  to  the  death  penalty  throughout  their  country's  history.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Khold  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Myrdynk"  "Skoggangsmann"  "Lædel"  and  "Dølgsmål".  8  out  of  10.

Khold/Svartsyn/Soulseller Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Khold  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  old  school  form  of  Norwegian  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Svartsyn"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Soulseller  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  Norwegian  style  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  yet  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  van  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  music  also  takes  an  old  school  style  and  also  updates  it  for  the  more  modern  era  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  album  also  bringing  in  elements  of  black'n'roll  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording,  when  guitar  leads  are  finally  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Khold  remain  true  to  the  mid  tempo  style  of  Norwegian  black  metal  that  they  have  established  and  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  darkness,  death  and  evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Khold  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Apostel"  "Skarpretter"  "Manngard"  and  "Villvandre".  8  out  of  10.

Khold/Morke Gravers Kammer/Candlelight USA/2004 CD Review

  Khold  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  mid  paced  form  of  Norwegian  style  black  metal   and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2004  album  "Morke  Gravers  Kammer"  which  was  released  by  Candlelight  USA.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast Norwegian  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  raw and  primitive  sounding  at  times  while  adding  a  great  amount  of  groove  elements  to  the  riffing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals a re  all  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in Norwegian  and  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  In  my  opinion  Khold  are  a  very  great  sounding  mid  paced  Norwegian   black  metal  band  with  groove  elements  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "DOD"  "Nihlheimr"  "Opera  Seria"  and  "Kamp".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
