Temple Nightside/Prophecies Of Malevolence/Nuclear Winter Records/2021 EP Re-Issue Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  an  earlier  ep  from  Australia's  Temple  Nightside  which  also  showed  their  early  ritualistic  and  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  the  ep  was  originally  released  in  2011  and  called  "Prophecies  Of  Malevolence"  with  the  re-issue  coming  out  in  May  on cd  by  Nuclear  Winter  Records.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  war  metal  elements.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  bestial  growls.

  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  90's  influences  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  show  an  influence  of  doom/death  metal.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  ritualistic  sounds  also  being  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  at  times.

  Melodic  chants  and  throat  singing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  chaotic  style  along  with  most  of  the  songs  having  an  interlude  in  between  them,  synths  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Necromancy,  Death  and  Mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  temple  nightside  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  and  occult  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Incipit  -Relinquished"  "Doctrine  Of  Earthly  Balance"  and  "Somnambulant  Of  The  Void".  8  out  of  10.

Temple Nightside/Pillars Of Damnation/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 CD Review

  Australia's  Temple  Nightside   have  returned  with  a  new  album  which  continues  the  occult  and  ritualistic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020 album  "Pillars  Of  Damnation"  which  will b e  released  in  August  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  Dark  yet  melodic sounding  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  slow  doom  metal  style  riffing  a  few  seconds  later.  Grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  the  solos  also  get  chaotic sounding  at  times.

  Bestial  and  cavernous  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  When  whispered  vocals  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  The  riffs  also  capture  the  dark  tone  of  90's  era  black,  death  and  doom  metal  as  well  as  mixing  it  in  with  a  more  modern  day  aggression.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  the  closing  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Necromancy,  Mysticism  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Temple  Nightside  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  and  occult  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Contagion  Of  Heresy"  "The  Carrion  Veil"  and  "Damnation".  8  out  of  10.

Temple Nightside/Recondemnation/Iron Bonehead Productions/2018 CD Review

  Temple  Nightside  are  a  band  from  Australia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before in  this  zine  and  plays  a  ritualistic  and  occult  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Recondemnation"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions  and  is  also  a  re-recording  of  their  2013  album  "Condemnation".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  brutal  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  bestial  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style.

  Most  of  the  tracks a re  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  leads  also  having  their  melodic  and  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  starts  getting  more  ritualistic  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Mayhem's  "Life  Eternal"..

  On  this  recording  Temple  Nightside  takes  all  of  the  songs  from  their  2013  album  and  re-records  them  and  the  songs  have  a  better  quality  than  the  original  version  while  still  being  in  a  black/death  metal  style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  mysticism,  and  Death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Temple  Nightside  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  ritualistic  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shrine  Of  the  Summon"  "Dagger  Of  Necromantic  Decay  (Eater  of  Hearts)"  and  "Life  Eternal".  8  out  of  10.

Temple Nightside/Condemnation/Dark Descent Records/2013 CD Review

  Temple  Nightside  are  a  duo  from  Australia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  occult  black  metal  and  ritualistic  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Condemnation"  which  was  released  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  "Shrine  Of  Summon  (The  Great  Opposer)"  begins  with  some  sound  effects  along  with  some  guitar  amp  distortion  coming  in  after  that  which  leads  to  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  drums  before  going  into  a  fast  and  primitive  black/death  metal  direction  with distorted  bass  playing,  growls  and  screams  for  a  minute  before  going  into  a  slower  and  darker  direction  for  a  few  seconds  before  reverting  back  to  fast.

  "Exhumanation:  Miseries  Upon  Imprecation"  begins  with  some  heavy  doom/death  metal  guitar  riffing,  drums  and  growls  along  with  some  dark  occult  synths  getting  mixed  in  for  a  brief  movement  which  then  leads  to  the  vocals  combining  death  and  black  elements  together  and  as  the  song  moves  on  it  adds  in  different parts  while  remaining  heavy  all  at  the  same  time  and  mixes  in  a  brief  use  of  occult  chanting.

  "Abhorrent  They  Fall"  begins  with  some  primitive  black/death  metal  guitar  riffs,  drums,  growls  and  screams  before  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  and  you can  hear  some  doom  metal  elements  in  the  slower  sections.

  "Pillar  Of  Ancient  Death  (Commune  2.1)'  begins  with  some  ritualistic  soundscapes  which  gets  more  diverse  as  the  song  moves  on  and  this  song  is  an  instrumental  piece.

  "Dagger  Of  Necromantic  Decay (Eater  Of  Hearts)"  begins  with  some  heavy  and  dark  guitar  riffs  which  leads  to  some  drums  and  guitar  leads  getting  mixed  in  setting  up  the  mood  fro   some  blackened  death  metal  growls  and  after  a  few  minutes  it  starts  speeding  up  a  bit  while  still  remaining  close  to  doom/death  metal  and  mixing  in  another  guitar  lead  towards  the  end.

  "Ascension  Of  Decaying  Forms"  begins  with  some  sound  effects  and  dark  guitar  riffing  and  after  a  minute  drums  start  kicking  in  as  well  as  waiting  another  minutes  before  bringing  in  the  black/death  metal  vocals  and  as  the  song  moves  on  the  riffs  and  vocals  get  more  diverse  while  also remaining  dark  all  at  the  same  time  and  you  can  hear  some  ritualistic  synths  towards  the  end.

  "Command  Of  The  Bones  (Commune  2.2)"  is  another  instrumental  ritualistic  dark  ambient  song.

  "Miasma"  begins  with  some  dark  and  heavy  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  drums  before  bringing  in  black  and  death  metal  vocals  and  as  the  song  moves  on  it  starts  mixing  in  some  primitive  elements  and  after  a  few  minutes  the  heaviness  stops  for  awhile  and  mixes  in  some  synths  and  powerful  bass  guitars  for  awhile  before  reverting  back  to  the  heavier  elements  along  with  some  Gregorian  chants  being  utilized  briefly

  Song  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Mysticism  and  Death,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Temple  Nightside  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  occult  black  metal   and  ritualistic  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shrine  Of  Summon  (The  Great  Opposer)"  "Dagger  Of  Necromantic  Decay (Eater  Of  Hearts)"  and  "Miasma".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
