Forgotten Tomb/We Owe You Nohing/Agonia Records/2017 CD Review

Italy's  Forgotten  Tomb  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  along  with  some  elements  of  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "We  Owe  You  Nothing"  which  was  released  by  Agonia  Records.

Heavy  riffing  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  start  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black'n'roll  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  used  briefly  as  well  as  the  slow  riffs  also  mixing  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal.

A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  having  their melodic  moments  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

Some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  guitars  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  punk  can  also  be  heard  at  times while  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction  along  with  one  track  also  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  slide  guitars  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  instrumental.

On  this  recording  Forgotten  Tomb  moves  very  far  away  from  depressive  black  metal  and  foes  for  more  of  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  negativity,  solitude  and  nihilism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Forgotten  Tomb  and  while  some  long  time  fans  might  be  disappointed ,  I  can  see  this  album  appealing  more  to  open  minded  fans  of  black,  doom  and  sludge  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Second  Chances"  and  "Longing  For  Decay".  8  out  of  10.

Forgotten Tomb/Hurt Yourself And The Ones You Love/Agonia Records/2015 CD Review

Forgotten  Tomb  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  bee n featured  before  in  this  zine  and  are  also  very well  known  in  depressive  black  metal  circles  and  on  this  album  they   go  for  more  of  a  modern  black  metal  sound  instead  of  the  gothic  black/doom  style  that  they  have  established  on  the  last  few  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Hurt  Yourself  And  the  Ones  You  Love"  which  was  released  by  Agonia  Records.

A  very  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  and  a  few  seconds  alter  the  music  goes  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  as  well  as  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  you  can  also  hear  melodies  coming  out  of  the  riffs  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

A  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  and  spoken  word  samples  can  be  heard  in certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  a  lot  of  the  songs  go  for  more  of  a  modern  style  of  black  metal.

Element s of  groove  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  riffs  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  some  of  the  slower  riffs  also  bring  in  a  touch  of  doom  while  the  band  focuses  more  on  a  blackened  style  this  time  around  while  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  black'n'roll  vibe  and  the  whole  album  is  very  diverse  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  instrumental  track.

Forgotten  Tomb  changes  their  musical  style  on  this  album  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  modern  black  metal  direction  and  while  it  still  is  not  on  par  with  their  earlier  depressive  albums  the  music  is  more  straight  forward  and  less  experimental  than  previous  recordings,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression,  Suicide,  negativity,  solitude  and  nihilism.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  great  return  to  form  album  from  Forgotten  Tomb  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Soulless  Upheaval"  "Hurt  Yourself  And  The  Ones  You  Love"  and  "Swallow  The  Void".  8  out  of  10.

Forgotten Tomb/Darkness in Stereo: Eine Symphonie des Todes - Live In Germany/Agonia Records/2014 Live Album Review

Forgotten  Tomb  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  that  has  went  through  many  different  musical  directions  starting  with  black  metal  then  getting  more  depressive  and  doom  metal  influenced  on  later  releases  before  evolving  more  into  a  mixture  of  black,  gothic  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  live  2014  album "Darkness in Stereo: Eine Symphonie des Todes - Live In Germany"  which  was  released  by  Agonia  Records.

Clean  playing  and  audience  reception  start  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro  they  play  one  of  the  newer  tracks  which  I  an  not  really  familiar  with  but  it  seems  to  be  in  a  more blackened  doom  metal  direction  while  still  having  the  depressive  style  screaming  vocals  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

The  guitar  leads  bring  in  a  very  melodic  sound  that  reminds  me  of  some  of  Paradise  lost's  material in  the  mid  90's  and  they  also  add  the  melody  into  the  guitar  riffing  and  some  of  the  material  they  bring  onto  the  live  recording  has  a  more  modern  metal  feeling  to  it  along  with  a  mixture  of  both  clean  and  heavy  parts  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

The  newer  material  has  a  stoner  doom  metal  vibe  at  times  and  you  can  really  hear  it  in  their  music  when  the  melodic  vocals  start  to  kick  in  and  the  band  also  bring s in  some  of  their  more  older  material  which  I  am  more  familiar  with  and  the  musical  direction  takes  depressive  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  some  of  the  more  melodic  doom  metal  of  early  Katatonia  and  the  band  stick  to  mostly  a  slow  to  mid  paced  sound  on  this  live  recording   with  no  blast  beats  or  fast  parts  being  utilized.

With  this  live  album  Forgotten  Tomb  bring  in  a  mixture  of  both  the  older  and  newer  material  which  show  2  different  sides  of  the  band  and as  well  as  making  the  live  recording  sound  very  diverse,  the  production  has  a  very  powerful  live  feeling  and  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  decent  sounding  live  recording  from  Forgotten  Tomb  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Reject  Existence"  "Solitude  Ways"  and  "Disheartenment".  8  out  of  10.

Forgotten Tomb/Songs To Leave/Selbstmord/2002 CD Review

Forgotten Tomb are a band from Italy that plays a very dark and depressive form of black metal that also has a doom metal edge to it and this is a review of their 2002 album "Songs To Leave" which was releasedby Selbstmord.

Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with occasional fast playing and blast beats, while the synths when they are utilized bring a very dark avant garde feel to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw depressive black metal riffs that also utilize influences from doom metal with some slow soft playing being used on occasion while the lead guitars are very depressive and melodic sounding guitar leads.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams that have a very depressive feel to them with some occasional spoken word passages being thrown in at times as well as a brief use of deep growls being used on one song, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive feel to it.

In my opinion this is a great album from Forgotten Tomb and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Solitude Ways" and "Disheartenment". RECOMMENDED BUY.
