Ad Noctem Funeriis/Abyss, Fire, Brimstones/Symbol Of Dominion Productions/Pluton's Rising Productions/2022 CD Review

 

  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  are  a  band  from  Italy  that h as  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  a  satanic  and  occult  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Abyss,  Fire,  Brimstones"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Dominion  and  Pluton's  Rising  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Melodies  are  also added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  era.  

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.  Some  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clear  vocals  and  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  and  as  the  recording  progresses  an  acoustic  guitar  instrumental  can  also  be  heard

  On  this  recording  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  plays  a  style  of  occult  black  metal  that  is  very  satanic,  raw,  aggressive  and  melodic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Occultism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Abyss  III"  "Fire  II"  and  "Brimstone  II".  8  out  of  10.

Infernal Angels/Catechon/Ad Noctem Funeriis/Italian Black Metal Assault/Adimere Records/2017 3 Way Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  Infernal  Angels,  Catechon,  and  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  called  "Italian  Black  Metal  Assault"  which  was  released by  Adimere  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Infernal  Angels  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  occult  black  metal.

  There  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  melodic  guitar  leads  and  drum  beats  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling.

  Vocals a re  mostly  in  the  deep  growling  style  along  with  a  few  screams  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  they  also  do  a  cover  of  Boa's  "Spawn",  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  religion,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Infernal  Angels  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Absum  Lucem".

  Next  up  is  Catechon  a  band  that  plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  that  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  some  of  the  riffing  adds  in  a  touch  of  thrash  and  the  songs  also  bring in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  A  small  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  their  is  also  a  brief  use  of  whipping  samples  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  negativity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Catechon  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Succube".

  Next  up  is  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  a  band  that  has  been featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  satanic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast  and  raw  sound  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melody.

  When  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  while  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  close  their  side  of  the  split  with  a  cover  of  Darkthrone's  "Whiskey  Funeral",  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  war,  Occultism  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMEDNED  TRACK  "Black  Legion".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  traditional  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Ad Noctem Funeriis Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
1. We have played live the entire new album in half Italy,on a mini tour in Croatia with
our old friends DewFall and we have released many radio interviews.

2.In May you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that was presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
2. the new album was composed by the new lineup,this mean a grow up of the band in
songwriting phases because now we are three "heads2 and not only one (Moloch).
In the past we tended to compositions purely raw,songs composed and played in 5 minutes
only by the instinct,today we work more on the riffs,paying more attention to the
harmonies and the guitar phrasings,and also to the impact of the songs in the live acts.

3.This is the first album to be released since 2009, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on the last 6 years?
3. well,from the 2010 to 2013 we were in three,me,Hellhound (voice) and Carondimonio (bass)
In our country musicians with attitude and dedication for the genre are very rare.This is the
reason because only in the 2013 we are reached a stable lineup,bringing our verb only live until
2015,and the result is "Satan's march black Metal".

4.Your lyrics cover a lot of Occult, Satanic and Anti Christian topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?
4. we prefer not to disclose specific details about our cult but you can easily understand who
we worship.

5.I know that the band name means 'To The Night Of The Funeral' in Latin, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?
5. Death is our constant friend,a presence that accompanies us in many choices,in every
composition,and the our is a slow and fast approach to Her..Life is a small part of our
existence and the the funeral indicates the accord with a new form of our being.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
6. Unforgettable the "Howling at the Moon" festival (Apiro,Marche 2015),a festival dedicated only
to the best underground Black Metal band situated in an old fortress in a wood.The honour to
sharing the stage with band like Handful of Hate,Taake,Negura Bunget,Stormlord and more and in
particular the show in Zapresic at the legendary Bomber Bar!Our live performances are ever full
mysticism,profanity,sound violence,more fast than the cd.When we are on the stage you can see
our real souls.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
7. Yes.We have many project for the future,follow us on our FB page,you can read news every day.

8.Your music is very traditional for black metal, what are your thoughts on the younger generation taking the genre into a different style that has nothing to do with the original meaning of the music?
8. Black Metal is not only a word.It's a particular kind of music characterized by schemes do not
break.The new generations should focus more on the feeling and the attitude than the musical
technique.Try to imagine Black Metal like a horror/splatter movie.Without blood and dead people
is not a horror/splatter movie!If you don't transmit certain sensations is not Black Metal.

9.On a world wide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
9. We are proud to be appreciated by all true black metaller's that know us,east and nord Europe,
France (we made a tape version of "...Of Evil and Torment" by a french label)in south America
(our logo was designed by a Mexican fan)

10.What is going on with some of the other musical projects or bands these days that some of the band members are a part of?
10. Our drummer Eversor and our guitarist Tyrannos play in a very raw Black Metal trio called
Souzern.The singer Hellhound and the bassist Carondimonio play in their Hexentomb.I officially
play only in Ad Noctem Funeriis.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
11. We will not come never to less our intentions,never compromises and NEVER PAY TO PLAY.
I see our future like the present,always on the road,always drunks,always on the stage.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
12 the 90' Black Metal bands,Burzum,Marduk,Satanic Warmaster,Dark Throne,Mayhem,Immortal are our
principal constant listening from ever,but we always try to personalize our songs.

  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  are  a  band  from  Italy  that plays a  very  raw  and  blasphemous  form  of  satanic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Satan's  March  Black  Metal"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  of  Domination  Productions  and  Vacula  Productions.

  A  classical  music  style  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  operatic  choirs  before  adding  in  grim  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   Evil  sounding  melodies  can  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  melody  that  is  very  close  to  the  Swedish  style  of  black  metal and  the  music  also  brings  back  a  bit  of  the  very  fast  90's  second  wave  style  along  with  some  of  the  riffs  and  drums  getting  very  brutal  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  and  a  few  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  couple  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars.

  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  fast  and  raw  and  goes  back  to  the  satanic  style  of  the  mid  90's,  the  production  sound s very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ad  Noctem  Funeriis  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast  and  raw  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fuck  Christian's  Cross"  "Inquisition  Of  Christ"  and  "Raising  Evil".  8  out  of  10.
