Zwielicht/The Aphotic Embrace/Van Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Zwielicht  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  misanthropic  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "The  Aphotic  Embrace"  which  will  be  released  in  2024  by  Van  Records.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  while  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental  and  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  album.

  On  this  recording  Zwielicht  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive,  modern,  satanic  and  misanthropic  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Misanthropy  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Zwielicht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  misanthropic  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Stench  Of  Rotten  Deities"  "Babalon"  and  "Twilight  Temple".  8 out  of  10.

Zwielicht/With Love Fom Sinister/Idiots Records/2022 Album Re-Issue Review

 

  Zwielicht  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  misanthropic  and  satanic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "With  Love  From  Sinister"  which  was  re-issued  in  2022  by  Idiots  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly.  When  the  music  speeds  up a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats  are  also  utilized  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  European  style.  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

   All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  also  make  a  brief  return  on  an  instrumental  before  returning  back  to a   heavier  direction  on  the  remaining  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Blasphemy  and  Anti  Humanity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Zwielicht  are  a  very  great  sounding  satanic  and  misanthropic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Through  Blood  And  Ashes"  and  "With  Lovre  From  Sinister".  8 out  of 1 0.
