Mantiel/Wampyric Rites/Ensomhet (Shattered Memories From A Distant Past)/Inferna Profundus Records/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Germany/Chile's  Mantiel  and  Ecuador's  Wampyric  Rites  called  "Ensomhet  (Shattered  memories  From  A  Distant  Past)"  which  will  be  released  in  march  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Mantiel  who  return  with  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Some  of t heir  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  can  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  songs  as  well  as  the  songs  also  capturing  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  pay  homage  to  the  great  black  dragon.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mantiel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Crossing  the  Ancient  Dusk".

  Next  up  is  Wampyric  Rites  who  return  with  their  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  synths  which  also  introduces  elements  of  dungeon  synth  onto  the  recording  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and r aw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim y et  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times.  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  melodic  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  pay  homage  to  the  great  black  dragon.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Wampyric  Rites  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "III  Agonizante  Trance  Lunar".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  i  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw,  old  school  and  vampyric  black  metal.

Mantiel/Vestiges Engraved In Frozen Mysticism History/Inferna Profundus Records/2023 Full Length Review

 

    Mantiel  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Germany  and  Chile  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  in  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  album  "Vestiges  Engraved  In  Frozen  Mysticism  History"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  songs  also  capturing  a  very  dark  and  lo-fi  atmosphere  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  One  song  is  also  an  instrumental  and  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  most  of  the  riffing  is  done  on  power  chords  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cove r of  Raven  Dark's  "For  Glory  Hat"  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  vocals.

  On  this  recording  Mantiel  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  is  very  raw  and  lo-fi  in  the  90's  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Mysticism,  Paganism  and  Nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  mantiel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wisdom  of  the  Ancients"  and  "Memories  Of  majestic  Ruins".  8  out  of  10.

Mantiel/Obskurité/Inferna Profundus Records/2022 CD Review

 

  Mantiel  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  Chile  and  Germany  that  plays  a  very  impure  and  hopeless  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Obskurité"  which  will  be  released  in  2022  by  Inferna  Profundus  Records.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  90's  influences  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  has  its  primitive  moments.  A  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  a  later  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  atmospheric  sounds  but  keeping  the  focus  on  more  of  a  raw,  heavy  and  lo-fi  style.

  Mantiel  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  lo-fi  sounding  in  the  true  underground  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Mysticism,  Vampirism,  Nature  and  Anti  Christianity  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Mantiel  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ancient  Remains  Embodied  In  Mysticism"  "Eroded  Monoliths  In  Twilight"  and  "Beyond  The  Stars-Depths  Awaken".  8  out  of  10.
