Tassi/Idamon Novasah-Liva/Dusktone/2025 Full Length Review

 

  China's  solo  project  Tassi  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Isamon  Novasah-Liva"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Dusktone.

  Epic  sounding  synths  which  also  add  in  a  touch  of  ambient  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Whispers  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  clear  singing  while  the  clean  playing  also  adds  in  elements  of  shoegaze  and  post  rock  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words  while  the  harsh  vocals  are  mostly  depressive  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  acoustic  guitars  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  most  of  the  music  sticking  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction,  when  the  album  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Chinese  and  cover  Daoism,  esoteric  and  spiritual  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tassi  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "LLL"  and  "VI".  8  out  of  10.

Tassi/Northland III/Time Tombs Productions/2022 CD Review

 

  Tassi  are  a  solo  project  from  China  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  Northland  III"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Time  Tombs  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  elements  of  post  rock  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  shoegaze  influences  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  clear  singing  is  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  Spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with  synths  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album.  Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  orchestration.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  involving  Tassi  from  the  previous  release  and  his  return  to  the  world  from  mysterious  ancient  books  and  his  new  journey  which  is  also  inspired  by  Buddhist  and  Esoteric  Philosophies.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tassi  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Star  Palace"  "Fairy"  "Lake  Of  Fire"  and  "The  Voice  of  the  Luna".  8  out  of  10.

Tassi/Northland I • II/Anesthetize Productions/2021 Double CD Review

 

  Tassi  are  a  band  from  China  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  double  album  "Northland  I • II"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Anesthetize  Productions.

  Post  rock  style  clean  playing  and  nature  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  songs  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Clean  vocals  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  shoegaze  elements.  High  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  album  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.  Female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  some  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  being  introduced  on  one  song  and  they  also  give  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  whispered  vocals  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  samples,  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  a  troubadour  named  Tassi  and  his  spiritual  and  esoteric  journey  to  paths  of  wisdom  and  the  songwriting  is  also  very  Buddhist  orientated.

  In  my  opinion  Tassi  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kita  no Kuni"  "Ancient  Dream  Book"  "Deva"  and  "Entropy  Vocatio".  8  out  of  10.
